Not normal. My In-laws had the same issue with a re-plaster job they had done. After much pushing, the contractor finally came out and drained and acid washed the pool. Looks great now.

Your pool should NOT look like that.

The pool was done one day (using a mixer for the plaster) and our spa done the next (mixed by hand). The spa looks perfect - totally different than the pool. So we were wondering if the mixing was improper. They used 8 Tahoe Blue, 1 Midnight Blue and 1 Onyx. The very light spots are rougher yet look more like hard powder and seem to be indented. We will pursue acid washing as a solution with our contractor. It should be easy enough to drain down below the tanning ledge and see if the acid washing helps the ledge look better, shouldn't it?

This is our second plaster job on the new pool. During the first plaster one of the batches was the wrong color (mixed the wrong combo of colors). If I were to replaster again I don't think I'd recommend a mix of plaster colors.

They are also having trouble getting the pool light screwed in and there is a slight shock in it even when turned off. That isn't right, nor is the leak in the spa or in the auto-fill device. We've got our work cut out in getting things corrected.

Is anyone aware of someone in the Arkansas area that would come inspect our pool for other problems we don't see or realize to look for?

That doesn't look normal. We have 3M and it does have very smooth-looking swirls, and the surface feels all the same. Yours looks blotchy and it definitely should not feel rough in some places, smooth in another.

Sounds like your pb follows instructions about as well as mine.

Step one: call swg and tell them your situation and see what they say. if nothing else, you have the "official manufacture's words" to work with.

Go from there.

My db is 4 weeks old. I'll tell you how they did mine, but I can promise you... my pb did nothing on any type of schedule, and anything he did that worked seemed as much luck as anything.

My finish is not perfect, and probably could've been better, but all in all, I'm pretty satisfied with the plaster.

About 36 hours after they finished plaster, they dumped about 12 gallons of muratic acid in my 18000 gallon pool. That's all they did. Since my pump wasn't hooked up, there was virtually no circulation for the next 48 hours.

I brushed it with a stainless steel brush (per swg's instructions), 2-3 times a day for next week, dwindling to once a day, and less as time passed (and I got tired of it.)

I think it completely changed colors. My memory is foggy, and so was the uncirculated/filtere water... and I was so mad at my pb, mostly bc of a leak in my spa that I finally found for him 2 weeks later.

I can't really tell by your pics how it all looks. Plaster pics are so hard to take. Maybe post some pics of the whole pool?

Thanks for the info! We called SGM immediately and hopefully have our builder coming tomorrow to get things fixed using the recommendations from SGM. SGM recommended doing an Acid Wash like Stevenbr did - using lots of muriatic acid. SGM has directions they can send you. They said our swirls are calcium deposits. Our builder didn't get our pump running for 8 days so SGM says the water couldn't hold any more calcium and it attached to the pool (or something like that). We at least have hope it will look like a normal pool.

We got the 'recipe' for the Diamond Brite mixture from our pool builder who used to work in Dallas.
