What are you quilting this weekend? 4/24-25/10

On Friday evening, I finished quilting the Relay for Life quilt. Today, I am going to press the backing for another quilt and put it on the frame.

I am also working on a birthday quilt block for a b-day block exchange on another quilt forum. I need some ideas. She asked for a gingerbread man or woman. I am desperately in need of a good idea. I have appliqued a gingerbread man to a square but don't know what I want to do next. Any suggestions?

I'm pulling fabrics from my stashes this weekend for a couple of quilts I have in mind to do.

As for the gingerbread man...remember the story of The Gingerbread Boy. "you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread boy"......... You might think about doing the book as a quilt.If I remember correctly he had a little old man and a little old woman chase him and a few others till finally the fox caught him and gobbled him up.

I have spent the day carpet cleaning and am one tuckered out girl!

If I have any energy, I have a dress for my DD to sew up. I have that and a quilt to quilt before the wedding Memorial Day weekend. I keep telling myself I have to do the dress before I do the quilt. Guess I better get busy!

I have to do at least one 9" block before guild on Monday and I have 7 other quilts & backings ready for the frame. Once I get that durn dress done!

Valarie, I love your quilt. I have to put its photo into my "quick quilt" file. I used the same charm pack, Me and My Sisters, I think, for a baby quilt too. I am almost finished sewing the blocks together for my husband's quilt top. Then it gets two borders and it's done. It's really turning out well. He wants a Minky backing, so I'll have to take a trip to the quilt shop, maybe tomorrow. He's a big guy, and he loves his nap, so the quilt will be 71"x86." I'll have to piece the Minky for the backing, but then I'll have plenty left over for a future baby quilt. I'll bet you Southern gals are all thinking, "How heavy," but we both like to keep the thermostat low in winter, about 62 degrees, and snuggle in a quilt. We launched my sailboat yesterday and got it rigged with no mishaps. That's always satisfying. The ice has been out only two weeks, so the water is still really cold. Our first race is May 15. I hope everyone is having a great weekend. And welcome back, Susan. What a good thing to have behind you.

Thank you bunches Bobby for making a tutorial for me! The puff quilt I saw back in my college days used much larger squares like about 8" x 8" after stuffing so am thinking I will use a larger size something like that. Thanks for letting me know that I am suppose to only pleat the top square. I do like to sew by hand a lot, but I don't know, I may when making the 3 sides might would use the machine and then just hand sew the 4th side. Hubby is wanting a lighthouse quilt and he wants a quilt with a little more weight to it - he said my last quilt felt like a summer quilt cause it was so lightweight. So am thinking I might could do a large lighthouse pieced block in the center of the quilt and then do large puff squares around it and stuff them so that it give the quilt more weight, that's what I am thinking about doing along the lines of a puff quilt, I don't know I will have to give it some thought. Thank you for sharing with me how you make your puff quilt, I appreciate that a bunch! Kate wow it looks great! And it's so neat and tidy right now. Please post a pic when you get it all fill with your fabric and stuff, can't wait to see it then. Thank you for sharing your quilt/sewing room remodel with us, it's really cool to see. And it's inspiring, gets me thinking about my "future" quilt room. Well my weekend did not go quite as planned, but had a good weekend. Went shopping with my mom and had a good visit with her Saturday morning and lunch. Then Saturday afternoon a close family friend's grandparents have passed away during the past year and so they asked us to come help clean out some of his grandma's sewing stuff and then wants me to keep, donate, or toss items as I see fit. So Saturday afternoon I helped dig part of his grandma's garden and then helped clean out sewing stuff out of the shed and then brought all that stuff home and went through it all on Sunday, hubby took some stuff to Goodwill this afternoon. There is fabric from our friend's grandma and his great-grandma that seems a little fragile so I am not going to wash it, but instead I plan to make large quilt squares out of the vintage fabric and frame the quilt blocks for our friend, his mom, and his sister. It's been a humbling experience sorting everything and it's been interesting seeing what she used in her sewing such as notions and fabrics, our friend's grandma did a lot of clothes sewing and their are patterns that are so old they only have 50cents marked as their price on them and I would like to frame some of them. Our friend's mom asked me and hubby to come back later this week when she cleans out her mom's bedroom aka sewing room, so it's just very humbling. The only other time in my life I have ever had to go through a deceased person's belongings was when one of my grandmothers passed in 2000, so helping our close family friend with his grandma's stuff kind of reminds me of my grandma ..., and along those lines, my Mom brought me some old quilt blocks that my grandma had made before she passed in 2000, so I have not decided yet if I am going to frame those blocks or whether I want to make a wall hanging or lap quilt out of them, there is just a few of them, but I feel really fortunate to have them. SEW?? What's that? I feel like all I have done this weekend is work on winterizing the RV, yard work, picking raspberries, and staining a new door. I did go to the fabric store this morning and got a jelly roll for the retreat and a couple fat quarters to test colors before I buy enough for the quilt I plan on working on at the retreat. I borrowed a tote bag for my sewing machine but think it is too big ... back to my original plan! I am hoping once I get done with dinner I will have time to try a test block with the new fat quarters. Sue

We decided that after several years of not putting out every Christmas decoration that poor DH drags out of the attic, some things need to go. We wound up completely emptying 10 bins! (Now I have some to store more sewing stuff in!) Still haven't put up the tree, not ready yet, but did put out a few things. So I did some FQM this weekend but not much. Gardening chores are finally starting to slow down so I won't have that excuse. I REALLY want to finish this thing and move ON. So I've done some this morning but really need to go to the grocery store. Maybe later on today. I promise I'll post a photo when done and I think I've decided who to gift it to. It's a man so hope he appreciates it but since it's a gift I have to cut the ties emotionally and not think about it anymore regardless of the reaction.

Jennifer, that is the way I felt about the Relay quilt. I wanted to start other projects but felt guilty for not working on the quilt. I feel so relieved to have it finished, at least my part of it.

Today I made a shorts outfit for my cruise. Tomorrow I plan to cut & sew 2 pairs of shorts. After that I need to layer & quilt a wall hanging I put together last weekend.

I finished a Sticks and Stones top for a co-worker's husband. I hope to get it quilted tomorrow so I can take it to her Monday.

I'm quilting the applecore on my Q-snap and piecing blocks on the 30 something. I got some Halloween panel fabric from the online shop when Kate posted, and at Paducah I got some way cute little Halloween buttons. I want to make a small wall hanging on my machine for my neighbor that's crazy about Halloween--still in the thinking stage. :)

Made one of the blocks for the Fab Shop Hop free patterns. Not sure why I am starting these as I have several things in the works already. They just looked easy and a why to whittle away at my stash. Jayne

I didn't do a lot of sewing yesterday, but did get the last of what I call Completely Crumbs put together.....talk about a scrappy quilt! I also got a Choc Star block
'kitted' along with a BD block. And, decided on a border for the Seasonal Challenge wallhanging. What I'll do today, I don't know........

Yesterday was just a fun day with time spent at a pie festival (OMG, the key lime pie on a stick, dipped in dark chocolate was seriously to die for!) and the rest of the day shopping the local outlet stores. This afternoon is a neighbor's garden party to show off the putting green he just installed in his backyard. (No, I'm not kidding. It's a real putting green with fake putting green grass. I could have bought a Bernina with what he spent on this thing.)

My quilting activities for the weekend will be to wash all the fabric I think I'm going to use for the wedding quilt and hopefully do a little hand applique work tonight on my BOM block. Unless I have too much wine at the garden party...

Well, I started out quilting but then I got involved in making a dress for my daughter. I was so hoping she could wear it to church today but something is wrong with the sleeve pattern. I just can not make them work on this dress!!! Not to sure what to do now but I lay awake "thinking" about it last night.

Yesterday was spent cleaning out my bedroom furniture (I sold it and they picked it up) to get ready for the new stuff on Thursday. I found a tag on the back of the chest with the date Oct 1980!! I think it's about time I got new huh? Anyway, today I'm hoping to get to the latest quilt top ready to be quilted. I want to use my new "used" Juki TL-98E. I gave it a test run yesterday and I'm so excited! It looks like it's going to be a great machine to play with. I can't wait to practice my FMQ.

I also promised myself to take a walk. My body is telling me I need to get some exercise (I feel like a pretzel). lol

Yesterday I finished my May B'day blocks so I can get them mailed Monday. A cyclone hit my sewing area, so I need to regroup today and tidy up a bit.
I took a picture of the April BOM and posted it (does that count?).
And, I picked up my new Pfaff GrandQuilter Friday, so I watched the instructional DVD and played with the machine some. I am waiting for the frame to come in to the dealer :). Today I will be making room for it - a big task!

Susan, you & I are so in sync with our progression! Except you got to retire - you lucky gal:))

Kate, where was the pie festival? Never heard of that one - probably a good thing! DH would have loved the key lime pie covered in chocolate!

Finished my BOM for July this am and picked the fabric for "8 Maids a Milking" # 8 of my 12. Would like to work up the pattern before I go to bed. Who knows, my GGsons 7 BD was yesterday and may come today to have a late celebration which will tie us the most of the day. Jayne

This past weekend I finally did some FM quilting on a ragg quilt that I've been working on for my DD for a while now. I have to really get in the right frame of mind for FM -- but I'm getting it at least.

I did my very first pp block for the pp block lotto. Also did 1 block for the May lotto. Most of the weekend was spent coordinating a dog rescue transport. Quilting fits in nicely with answering the calls and sending out the updates during the run.

I was still in Ireland without my machine or any hand work but I did find the largest quilt shop in Ireland!!! It was so great to take a little getaway for myself and just meander among the fabrics. The owner, Maeve was just divine and we chatted away for a few hours as I floated around the shop. Most of the fabric was American so much of it I have or had seen already. What was fabulous was finding a few older American fabrics that are sold out everywhere on the internet but I was able to find among the hidden treasures of her shelves!!! I did pay dearly since the dollar isn't so great and they are imported fabrics over there. Some of them were $18-19 a yard!!! It was worth it for the unobtainable ones!!!

I did find some domestic fabric in pink and purples (purples are my favs) that was very loud on the bolt but looked pretty in the pinwheel quilt she had hanging up so I took home a kit!!

After 2 cups of tea, and wonderful conversation I left with my treasures, along with a great little reusable tote with her logo and shop info on it. I only wish I would have taken my camera with me. I will take pics of my goodies when I get home from work today, I was too exhausted last night after unpacking and starting laundry!!

Donna - the Pie Festival was at Celebration. They do it every year in conjunction with the Pillsbury Bake Off thing they do down there. It was fun!
