Did you see the movie Juno?

I watched it last night. I liked a lot of things about the movie but had trouble accepting Juno's boyfriend as someone she'd be in love withÂor, as she said, "the coolest person I've ever known." He sure didn't seem cool to me. Sweet and nice, maybe. But not cool.

She was so dazzlingly articulate, whereas he barely spoke. I could see her being attracted to a younger version of Jason Bateman's character (unfortunately).

What did you think? I'm aging rapidly and maybe I'm losing touch with coolness. :-)

I loved the movie, but I think you are right. She was so mature for a 16 year old (I've never met a 16 year old that mature.....and yes I know she is 21 in real life, I am talking about the movie, LOL). He wasn't the type of guy I'd think she'd be with.

I loved the movie and yes, the boyfriend was pretty bland.
I can't remember what scene it was in, but the step mother told the Dad, regarding the pregnancy, "You can believe it was Juno's idea to have sex" or something along the lines that the she was a bully. I wonder if the boy was cast/written/portrayed in that manner to enhance Juno's strong personality?

Just saw this recently. I liked the mystery and intrigue, and was even willing to forgive the incredible coincidences and ease with which Nicholas Cage was able to solve it, until... ***********SPOILERS************** Until it turned out the whole thing was about aliens and the earth ending. Ugh. I just have no patience for what this particular formula in movies. Even putting that aside for a minute, the idea that these aliens knew about the end of the earth years ahead, and that their course of action was to just let it happen and save two and only two children is abhorent to me. Why not save lots of children? Why these two in particular? Why only children? Why not give earth real advance warning instead of a cryptic note seen by three people a week before the end? My theory on this movie was that a couple of art directors/set designers/special effects guys were sitting around one night, sipping some wine, and wondering how they could get nominated for an oscar. The conversation goes something like this: - You know what always wins? - what? - Aliens with cool looking spaceships - yeah! Let's do one of those! Result: Knowing

No I don't know them, and my comments were harsh. Mainly because of that innocent little girl, now she will surely know that finances were part of the reason her Daddy hanged himself, and if it does not occur to her this year, within a few years and certainly when she's older, she'll most likely think back to her extravagant birthday party and blame herself. That is why I said what I did about her mother. That kid could have had a $15 cake from the grocery store, 8 friends and pin the tail on the donkey and been just as happy. That party was to indulge her mother's ego. But you know how I am about people not being personally responsible--and yes, it was his fault for not putting his foot down, but regardless as to how much she knew about their finances, her spending was over the top and vulgar. In fact, her life seemed vapid and vulgar, to me. As to many of them. Just what I deduce from what I'm shown, and what they agreed to be a part of. I don't know why I tune in when I do (haven't watched all the franchises, or any complete season) but it's like watching a train wreck.

Thanks, all, for your responses. I was surprised to find more subtlety in the characters. Even the shrink/friend couldn't stand outside herself and recognize how she was fueling her discontent. The 'poet' had all the 'soul' of a rock. The kids seemed more centered -- and *braver* -- than the supposed adults! LIly -- I liked "Blue Jasmine", but boy, was I sick to death of 'Jasmine'! I kept wanting a flashback to see the pair who had adopted these two girls. Sheilajoyce -- We'll get around to "Philomena" as soon as we can watch it -- in our stop and go fashion -- on a DVD. We have the whole of "Downton Abbey" on DVR for when we get home in March.

I loved it too...and thought the same thing. I woule think she'd be attracted to a guy that was a little tougher, edgy maybe. She was excellent in this part....I loved her spunk! Cute movie! I was surprised at my DH ...he watched it and thought it was really good. That is NOT his type of movie at all....but he really liked it.

I agree, we just didn't find out enough about the boy. I think he needed more involvement or backstory, because the store clerk at the beginning was more memorable ("Your eggo is preggo" LOL).

I laughed very hard at the part where the stepmother said "Well, you know it wasn't HIS idea" LOL.

I learned what "stink face" was. LOL! Never heard that expression before.

The movie was very cute. I liked the Nerd.

I mostly agree, but there were references to his having a band and being funny. The problem is that the audience needs to see those things, not just be told them.

I loved the movie. I really like that boy actually, ever since he was on Arrested Development.

I think the reason he was not in the movie much was because she had to figure out on her own how he was the 'coolest person'. I liked him, to me they were both dorks in the school~~he was kind and wanted to be with her but she pushed him away, I believe in my version of the movie he was very smart and very cool in a dorky kinda way. He would grow up to be the kind of man you want to marry but not to date in HS. And in the end Juno found that out by being around Jason Bateman~~~the man who left his wife. Because she wanted a baby.
