Did You See "Enough Said"?

Our 'teatime matinee' yesterday was "Enough Said". We were surprised to like it so much. Since I am still pondering the themes today, I thought I would ask if others found it much more than a 'comedy'.

There are some funny bits, but only after seeing the movie do I appreciate the title.

(The director should have told Julia Louis-Dreyfus to tone it down. Her mugging is distracting. Gandolfini was completely believable in his role, as were all of the supporting cast.)

I haven't, but I 'd like to. I've heard that Gandolfini's character was so much like he was in real life.

Funny....I was just looking a photos of him. I told my cousin that I was badly in need of a haircut because I was "looking like Tony Soprano's mother." She'd never seen The Sopranos, so she asked me to explain. I Googled Livia Soprano and found all sorts of glamorous looks. ;-)

I liked the movie, didn't love it. Loved Blue Jasmine which I saw last week. I agree that Gandolfino's performance was flawless. I did think Julia's performance was a little over the top. Too frenetic. I liked the actress who was his ex wife.

A group of 50+ of us went to a state park in TN (east of Nashville) so we were there for totality (2 minutes, 34 seconds) It was so cool watching the moon eat the sun, bit by bit. At totality, everyone whipped off their eclipse glasses and cheered and was just amazed. I stood there looking up--those 2.5 minutes passed really quickly. I got to see the diamond ring effect both at the beginning and end of the eclipse, as well as being able to see Mars. It didn't get as dark as I expected--we could see stars and Mars, but it wasn't dark--it was deep twilight. I didn't take pictures, but friends who are with me are sharing theirs. It was an amazing experience and well worth the 9+ hour drive!

here in SD we have had the smoke for a week or more yesterday the sun was red in the afternoon and this morning it was red too. On my last trip out to Rapid City when the sun was setting, first it looked like it was raining in front of it and then there was black clouds going across it. Kind of like the sun had a mustache, but now that I think of it it probably was caused by the smoke from the fires up in Canada and Montana

2ManyDiversions " the appliance people we spoke to all showed shock when I mentioned every single large appliance in our home was 20 years old. That's our current home. My previous the appliances also lasted over a decade and the new homeowner did not replace them for years. I've never, ever, bought warranties for appliances. I plan to with all ours, this time around." Appliance salespeople must live in a different reality. My last refrigerator was 17 years old before I replaced it. My range and dishwasher were both 23 years old when replaced. My washing machine was still operational when I replaced it at 18 years. My dryer is 19, so keeping fingers crossed LOL. I have never bought warranties either, and I don't plan on changing my thoughts on that. House Vixen, I am enjoying my convection bake - it's not something I knew much about, but it seems to work well.

My husband reminded me that we basically had the exact same thing done on our porch...using our normal electrician (the one who wired the house when we built but who’s company is only doing new construction during the pandemic) and he had to drill through brick! Apparently the price we paid was substantially lower bc I don‘t even remember what it was, lol! I’m thinking around $200. Perhaps he doesn’t want to do it...but I would have preferred he said that upfront before taking time out of my day to come over and have me show him what’s going on. I mean, I told them the scope of work on the phone when I initially called. They could have said they were too busy for small jobs (which I don’t think they are, he came over pretty quickly for the quote and indicated our window for installation was doable.) Oh well, I’ve got two more guys coming next week. I’ll let y’all know what they say!

Yes, I loved it. It was bittersweet watching it, knowing that JG is gone now. I loved him as an actor. I liked Julia LD in it, also.

Thanks, all, for your responses. I was surprised to find more subtlety in the characters. Even the shrink/friend couldn't stand outside herself and recognize how she was fueling her discontent. The 'poet' had all the 'soul' of a rock. The kids seemed more centered -- and *braver* -- than the supposed adults!

LIly -- I liked "Blue Jasmine", but boy, was I sick to death of 'Jasmine'! I kept wanting a flashback to see the pair who had adopted these two girls.

Sheilajoyce -- We'll get around to "Philomena" as soon as we can watch it -- in our stop and go fashion -- on a DVD. We have the whole of "Downton Abbey" on DVR for when we get home in March.
