Dusty - Photo and Update

Good morning everyone

Here is a photo of my Dusty. DH spoke with the vet yesterday and she said it sounds like he is going through kidney and renal failure. We have an appointment Friday morning so she can take a look at my Dust but it doesnÂt look good. DH and I are preparing ourselves for the end. ItÂs going to be a long hard weekend but I do have one thing that I take comfort with. When the moment comes I know my EKO will be waiting for his brother to join him.

Oh, he's adorable. I'm sorry for the news. I have one that is in early renal failure, too. Coincidentally, he's my almost 17 year old. I know what you're feeling, believe me. Maybe it's not the end, but at least you're preparing in case.

oh dear...shouldn't have opened this..your dusty looks so much like my tikka...(sisiter to the 2 kitties i stil have) bless them all...

I hope that things straighten away for you, SamKaren. We are having dental issues with our little Bob, the littlest of our cats, ondoclastic resorbtive lesions. He had 3 teeth pulled last week and his jaw bone cleaned. The poor little fella was in some major pain. We are hoping that it is not a precancerous condition, he is only 5.

I'm with lax - when I read your post, I immediately thought of nomorebluekitchen's (which is worth pulling up just to read about the little prank her sister pulled on her! :-) Evilbunnie, I love those pix too. I must have over 500 photos and it includes every single boring detail, from first shovel in the ground to first meal cooked. I never bothered to post any progress pix here but I do think they are so helpful for everyone embarking on these projects. So, Stacy, pls keep your pix coming - it's so much fun to see your vision come together. BTW, saw your other post - I think your island is a great size for your space. Dusty looks just like my Jennie. She was the world's greatest cat. She lived to be 21 1/2. It will be very hard but after the grieving is over, you can focus on the many years of joy he brought you. Just know that when the time comes, you have given Dusty the greatest gift......a love so great you were willing to let go.

Dusty must have a lot of relatives, because he looks just like my Buddy, who died of heart failure several years ago. A sweetheart of a cat, as I'm sure your Dusty is.

Yes, EKO will be waiting. And you will see both of them again someday.

Great pic. My beloved "Whisper" cat was diagnosed at 15 with renal failure. I fed her her favorite Fancy Feast dinners (the sliced chicken, beef and turkey with gravy. No seafood. She stayed alive two more years. I finally lost her last July. Saying prayers for Dusty.

I'm sorry the news isn't good, but glad you and John are preparing yourselves. Focus on a happy Dusty across the Rainbow Bridge, playing with Eko. Hugs!

I am so sorry. I just went through kidney/renal failure with my 16 year old Siamese, Eli. Hugs to you!!!

Dusty is beautiful Karen!
Sounds like she has lots of "relatives", by the way the KT'ers are talking. Having been there and done that, it's not easy. You have to think that you're doing the best thing for him, and the last thing you want is for him to suffer.

Try to have the best weekend you and John can, under the circumstances.

What a pretty boy!! I don't know if this would be an option for you, but I know of several people who've given IV fluids to their renal failure kitties. They were doing it at home, after the vet showed them how and supplied them with the saline solution. Doesn't seem to bother the kitties too much and can help them live quite a bit longer, with good quality of life.

So sorry about Dusty, I know how very hard it is to see them suffer and to let them go. Our siamese was almost 21 yrs old, older than two of my children, I was devastated.

It's never easy, but you gave him so much love all these years so you shouldn't feel guilty about a thing.

I'm being very hopeful and I appreciate all the prayers.

Yesterday DH bought some Chicken Breast and Dusty was eating it like there was no tomorrow. He also drank a little more water and used his litterbox this morning. He still has the diahrrea so I am hoping the vet will tell us it's just a virus or something.

Won't be able to update you until Monday as I don't have a computer at home.

Wish my Dusty luck tomorrow.

Obviously, I don't know your whole situation, but I had 2 CRF kitties that lived for nearly 9 years with the disease. They were 9 when diagnosed, and lived to be 17. Have they told you about things you can do?
