How do you like your bananas?

I sliced a banana on my cereal this morning. I like them yellow, but firm. Soon as the peel starts getting brown spots, it's too ripe for me.

I knew a girl who liked hers more green than yellow.

I like mine firm too, and usually buy them yellow/green, then they ripen. I eat one every day usually. love my bananas and Rice Krispies!

I prefer them peeled!
I like bananas just on the edge of over-ripe. They have more flavor, and I don't mind a certain amount of softness.

They were shredding mine so badly in the early spring that I thought I would never have plants this summer. I went to the pet store and bought the spray that you spray onto furniture to keep dogs from chewing it. There are several different brands, I used the one called "Bitter Apple". It works very well, but you have to reapply it after rain. It did not hurt my plants. I put it on bananas, alocasias, anything they chewed or I thought they were going to chew, LOL. It also worked against rabbits.

My biggest problem has been from rot. I would be afraid that plastic would keep the moisture in and promote more rot. I would like to find a way to protect the trunk AND keep rain from running down from the top into the plant. And to keep the soil at the base drier. Mine is on a slope but the soil there is very water retentive. And in the mild winter the plant keeps fairly actively growing and pumping more water up from the roots to the top. If I cut any leaves off, the leaf stem keeps pouring water out of the cut edge. I wish the leaves WOULD die back and dry out at the first freeze. In the past we have completely lost the main stem to the base and deeper to complete mush, but had some pups grow back the next year. In the past we have not done much except to run out at the oncoming of a predicted bad freeze and then try to throw covering over it. I would like to do something ahead of time this year since we have a very nice trunk this year. I was hoping there is some type of woven matting that would insulate and shed rain that could wrap the trunk yet some air could still get to it. And then also something to make a cap for it. Oh, and a ladder for the slope so we could reach it--and...yeah, yeah, dream on.....

Usually with just brown sugar and raisins or dates. And I like either old fashion oatmeal or McCann's Steel Cut Irish Oats cooked overnight in the slow cooker. But our favorite way is Oatmeal Pancakes. Looking at the recipe makes me want to make a batch right now. You do need to use buttermilk, just doesn't taste right with regular milk. Oatmeal Pancakes 3/4 cup quick-cooking oats 1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons well-shaken buttermilk, divided 3/4 cup whole-wheat flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 3/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon grated nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 large egg, lightly beaten 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar Soak oats in 3/4 cup buttermilk 10 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl. Stir egg, butter, brown sugar, remaining 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons buttermilk, and oat mixture into dry ingredients until just combined. Heat a griddle over medium heat until hot and lightly brush with oil. Working in batches, pour 1/4 cup batter per pancake onto griddle and cook until bubbles appear on surface and undersides are golden-brown, about 1 minute. Flip with a spatula and cook other side, about 1 minute more. (Lightly oil griddle between batches.) I also have a good recipe for Oatmeal bread. Great for PB & J sandwiches. Clare

Hi chisue, We had one of the ones with the two wings and the little wooden handle on the side to turn the wing down to put the bread in ...then had to watch 'em, so that they didn't smoke. Had to flip 'em, too, to toast the other side. Need to watch again, to be sure that the second side didn't smoke, either/too. Sort of like needing to turn the other side, when sunbathing. ole joyful

Left in the store. If I do eat bananas, they have to be on the green side. If they are yellow or have freckles, I can't get them past my lips. I'm not a fan of banana bread, but will eat it if nothing else is around.

Love bananas! Just yellow, no green or freckles. With peanut butter or honey. Banana bread with nuts! YUM!!!! In a smoothie with ice & strawberries....

I don't like bananas plain. I like them in a cake or banana bread. I like the flavor but don't like the texture so I don't eat bananas unless it's in something.

I love bananas,,they have to be starting to freckle. I agree with marlingardener, they have more flavor. If I let them go a little too far I make banana bread or put in a smoothie.
My favorite thing (from childhood) is to make butter toast, slice bananas on top and sprinkle with sugar...yum!

One of my favourite ways to serve them is to have them in a bowl cut up with some orange juice. YUMMY!

they have to have green on the edge. all yellow or brown freckles? well, they are only good for smoothies or bread! lol

I like mine really freckle-y...not to the point where it's mushy, but definately ripe.

I like mine freckled, too. I can eat them yellow without freckles but if they have green they leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Love banana with freckles, too.

I developed a banana toast for my GS when he was young. Everyone, including, adults, loved it.

Love sliced bananas and strawberries sugared and covered in milk, for breakfast.

Peanut butter with mashed bananas is good, especially if the bread is spread with Hellman's :o)

I like bananas on the greenish side. Once they turn yellow in the freezer they go for smoothies or banana bread. Whenever I eat a banana Loki gets the bottom and top piece but if it has any ripeness to it at all he spits it out and refuses to eat it. Sometimes there are more black bananas in my freezer than anything else.

I like mine a little on the greenish side -- just a bit of green on the ends. I can tolerate them when they start getting speckles, but I just don't like them as much then.

Yellow bananas, not green, not mushy. I like them cut lengthwise and spread with peanut butter. I like them on lots of different kinds of cereal. Also great in fruit salads, banana puddings and such. If soft and darker, great for baking.

Love green bananas, when I just eat one plain. For my banana sandwich with mayo will eat the ripe ones. Now for banana pudding, any variety will work. Love eating banana pudding.

I had 9 brothers and sisters and at least 1/2 of us dont eat bananas. I like banana bread and I will eat them in a salad or desser, but some of them will not even eat that. I love banana bread with chocolate chips in it, but hate nuts in it.
