Your kitchen is beautiful -- I love your granite -- that white streak in it is just wonderful and picks up and connects the cabs with the backsplash -- Love the elegance and simplicity of the BS -- what are the smaller inset tiles, I'm going to be looking form something simular to mix up my BS.

rjr220, thanks for the nice words - I love the veins too and couldn't believe it when at the slab yard they said a lot of people don't like them. Although it is a weak spot in the slab it is more of an issue for fabrication than after installation, so I was happy when they were all put down without fracturing there! The inset tile is from Sonoma Tile - custom blend of equal parts Sonoma Stone Grey Flannel, Luna and Martinique with a border of Grey Flannel 1x2 tiles. Sonoma has a fun online tool to create custom blends from any of their 1x1 tiles. Good Luck on the start of your project - we will be looking for your update pics too!

Everyone else - if you ever get the chance you should take a tour of a naval ship or submarine. You won't believe the size of the kitchens they use to feed the numbers of meals they do. Below is a picture of the USS Bowfin galley. On the sub the galley (kitchen) was in a space most of us would consider the size of a butler's pantry. And they served 3 meals plus "midrats" (midnight rations) to over 100 men each day. On top of this, many considered the submarines to have the best food in the fleet. That is no small accomplishment when all the fresh food is gone in 2 weeks.

Especially on the boomers that go down for three months at a time. When I first went in I wanted to get into subs, but I would've had to wait almost a year before I even left for bootcamp, so I ended up on the surface. :-)

I won't touch the "target" comment. When I first got on board, one of my underway stations was bridge lookout, and I can't tell you the eye strain I experienced looking for periscopes when we were doing exercises off VaCapes, and KNEW there was a sub shadowing us!

for a second there I thought you had a blue hood...duh... so happy you're in the home stretch! gotta love it - your dream, new (not someone's old stuff), all spiffy and gorgeous - and stuff where YOU want it, the way YOU want it for the way YOU use your kitchen. makes a world of difference from working in a kitchen from the 50's - 90's.
