I am thinking instead of a dark gray liner .. a lighter or medium gray liner. That will give you a dark blue, but not black pool. I don't Know .. just thinking from what I have read. Maybe someone here has experience with it. I am thinking that a Dark gray liner would make the water Too dark, kwim? Where are you from ~ what is the cost for something like that? I want a pool and am researching options, plaster, fiberglass or vinyl liner. Seems most pools in FL are concrete gunnite .. but not sure? I think fiberglass might be a second runner up??

Yes, I do want a darker blue, so maybe a medium gray would be the way to go...I live in eastern TN, and the pool installed with concrete coping is 23,000...still haven't decided on heater or salt water generator. Anyone else have suggestions, pics maybe?

What did you decide on? I am in the same situation but I am possibly considering a tan color. I have not seen this look in a pool but the sample looks very interesting.

Tan pool will give greenish water (which I like). I went with Sandy Beach Pebble Tec, which is tan in color. I've included a link to Pebble Tec colors and what water they give. This may give you an idea.

I consider my pool a dark gray or medium-dark gray, but definitely dark. I don't have a liner pool, it is quartz/plaster, but if you want an idea of what a dark gray color would make your water color, I just posted the other day "Roof view of our pool" and the water color is pretty true to the picture. It is a royal blue color similar to the color you get from Midnight Blue Tec. And also, finesse is right, tan will give your pool a greenish color, not algae green though, a very natural subdued green.

Strangely enough a good case of algae bloom can give your water that 'darker' look too!!! ;-)

We considered several different liners before settling on a light blue although we didn't really look at the dark colors. We did visit a pool that our PB built for another customer and they used a gray liner. In our opinion, the pool seemed dull. Of course it all comes down to personal preferance. Try to see several pools that your PB has built to get a better feel for what the different liners look like. They look different in a catalog and in the store than they do in the pool. Our PB used some of the liners on pacificpools.com and permalife-pools.com.

Good luck!!! I decided on a black liner from triac (and a liner covered inside step)...I hope I didn't make a mistake. I don't know, because it hasn't been installed yet. I wanted a dark gray, but the only one I could find was a Vynall, and the sample wasn't nearly as dark as the pic. on the web. I couldn't find a pic. with it actually in a pool, and Vynall couldn't get me one either...I was afraid that it would have a green tint to it, so I went with the black (we want a dark, deep blue). I hope it's not too dark. A word of caution on the pebble look liners...the Fort wayne one is nice, but the triac & pacific version looks really splotchy...I had both the gray & blue version for a weekend and they both made me queasy to look at after awhile...definately see one in person!! Please...if anyone can find a picture of a gray liner in a pool, please post it!!! Maybe I can still change my mind!!! I have stressed bad about our liner decision for the last 3 months, but for some reason the look we are trying to achieve isn't popular here in TN, and it's next to impossible to find natural looking vinyl pics period...I am posting links to the website that has the pictures that finally convinced me to go black...the 1st & 4th pics. under vinyl showcase are black, and the last one on the awards gallery is a black liner as well. Did you install your black liner? Would love to see photos if you could post them. We have a vinyl pool and need to replace the liner--our pool backs up to the woods and I want a more natural looking body of water.

I noticed you are in E. Tn, where abouts?.. We are in Chattanooga. We are doing a Vinyl liner pool that is being dug nextish week and I STILL have not picked my liner. Mine is going to be a classic *Doris Day* sort of pool.. riviting blue with white accents. Think Rock Hudson doing a cannon ball into the deep end :)

I found this pic. of a very natural looking vinyl pool, like a pond. not sure what color the liner is but could be black maybe the pool builder could tell you. hope it helps.

Logansmum~do you have snakes and frogs in your area? Would a black liner make it harder to see if you are swimming with any of these critters?
We have woods and a creek behind us and often get snakes (some Cottonmouths)in the pool. I always check the skimmer before getting in the pool, also.
