Hi, Bonnie.. I have a queen size mattress on a full size bedframe. It is not my preference-- but I was lead to believe that the bedframe would be retrofitted to the queen size (long, unpleasant story). The cost of the bed was substantial enough that I am now living wth it-- I dont think it is all that noticeable to someone who doesnt know the bed/mattress are mismatched. My headboard/footboard are more delicate than yours but I am not sure that makes a big difference.

This is a bad photo-- but with bedding on the bed, the overhang is there but I dont think it screams at you. However, given the choice, I wouldnt have done it this way.

Ignore the bedding and the exposed box spring-- this was right after the bed was delivered.

HA! Well, I had to remove the stairs that allowed him to get up on the bed. They were too short for this much taller bed.. and it was too long a step for his elderly bones (he is +/- 15 yo) He is a wonderful sleep partner though-- he comes up for a quick GN snuggle and then finds a small spot at the bottom. Grace, my rottweiler/mastiff spreads out to fill a queen size mattress like a gas in a room.

I think that the solid maple head/footboard with the spindles would look "off" with a Queen size mattress.

FunkyArt's works because the head/footboard are so light and delicate, you don't really notice them. They just sort of blend. Plus the look is more Shabby Chic and things that are a bit quirky 'work' with Shabby Chic.

The more formal the furniture is, the less likely a mismatch in size is going to work designwise, but of course it just all depends on how 'picky' you are about details like that. It would not look terrible but I'm sure there are better choices and a similar set will come along in Queen size.

I agree that it will look a bit odd, but I was also wondering without siderails how you were going to attach the whole thing together?

Its a great headboard and footboard,though, do you have a full that you could use it with?

It seems to be unanimous. I guess I'll pass on it.

I would have to work on attachment. Right now my box spring is covered by a fitted sheet, and has it's own legs which can come off.

Funkyart, I really can't tell from the photo, that the foot board and bed size aren't matched. Maybe it's the angle? The pooch looks happy about the arrangement though.

funkyart - I love your iron bed and seem to remember seeing one like it either at American Iron Beds or Cathouse Antique Beds when I was looking for my kids' beds. Is yours an antique or reproduction? I ended up getting one of each.

We travel in the same circles LOL.. it is from cathouse beds. I hope your experience with them was much better than mine.. I am still so upset about my experience that I cannot yet love the bed.

I recently settled on bedding-- a year after I got the bed--I bought layers of linen duvets from papillion linens. It should look very much like this staged bed from their ad:

Oh.. and it is antique. Though if you bought from cathouse beds, I guess you knew that ;) I think all of his beds are antiques.

It is from a foundry here in PA-- in fact from a small town just a few miles from the town my grandparents grew up in.

Ahhh, what I wouldn't give to have your bed and those linens! We bought our bedroom furniture early in our marriage, and I thought nothing of agreeing to DH's choice of bedroom furniture - which was an entire room full of Mission style stained quarter sawn oak. It's actually very nice and of great quality so it will last forever (unfortunately) but I wasn't thinking that I'd never be able to justify swapping it for a feminine iron bed down the road :-)

I didn't end up using Cathouse for my daughter's antique bed so I can't speak to their customer service. The man I spoke with seemed helpful and sent many pictures, but I found the perfect bed from a mom and pop place down south - Loading Dock Antiques. I was very pleased with their customer service and their refinishing of her bed.

From what I can see of it, your bed is beautiful. I love the finish. Sorry you had such a bad experience in getting it though.

To the OP - that is a pretty bed and I hope you find one like it in a queen size.
