Vinyl over steps...slippery?
Comments (6)I'm not a builder. I am a tech. I started my own outfit last season and have not had any liner over jobs that I can show yet. All liner over step pools I've done were done while I was employed with other outfits. Asking these homeowners if I can take a picture now, would be inappropriate from my point of view. I do not, now will I ever go after another's former employer's customers. That would burn bridges, never a good thing. If an old customer came to me, it's a different story. I started my business from scratch and build/earn my own customer base. If I run into a situation where I need help, I can call and get it. Whether it's advice or skilled man power, because of my personal standards, I still have access to resources others in startup mode are not likely to have. The reason for the extended explanation is simply so you understand it's not because of a lack of experience. Its simply because I don't have the customer base yet with which to ask for permission. FWIW, not all the ones I have done had the heavier textured material. An additional thing I don't like about liner over steps is the inside corners often get wrinkles, particularly the top step, due to the lack of water pressure present to press it into place. Some liner vendors are better at dealing with them than others. Scott...See Morevinyl liner, skimmer & steps quote...how does this price sound?!
Comments (7)Also, the wooden walls underneath the liner may have some holes and need to be patched. They told me it would be $50 (per foot I think) for a sheet of metal, if needed. There is no way to tell how much, if any, patching needs to be done before the old liner is removed. They did patch a large hole underneath my existing liner, two years ago. That liner was out of the track and the only way to properly repair it was to put the metal sheet patch over the hole. Two years ago when I had the liner repaired, I called 3 other pool compaines, they were the only one who told me I did not have to replace the entire liner, at that time. Are there any other ways I could cut costs, such as asking for a certain type of steps? They are putting in fiberglass/acrylic I think. I guess that is the best kind to put in on a budget?? Will they really last a lifetime like the company says? I was thinking I'd try to get it all done for $5000 instead of the $6000. Also get them to throw in enough bags of salt to get me started. I don't expect they will go that low, for $5000, but I am going to ask and if not try to bargain a little bit higher. How does all this sound?...See MoreVinyl Pool Steps

Comments (0)Anyone ever heard of putting natural stone treads over vinyl liner for the entry points for their pool? I saw a photo and it looked very cool. Wondering if it is actually feasible or not worth the headache. Seems like it could extend the life of your liner not having tons of traffic on vinyl....See Morenylsor107
