That's the company I sell for, I'll say that upfront. I can tell you that I've yet to have any complaints about it. It's free and yes the flat rate is nice. Depending on your location rural/urban etc. really dictates your waiting time. I personally don't have it but then I don't insure with Allstate because they didn't have the one coverage I demanded for my home.

Have you checked with your car insurance company? We have towing/assistance added to our policy...at a cost of $3 per year per vehicle. We have used it a few times. I think the limit is $50, but that has been enough to cover what we needed. We pay the towing company, submit the bill to our insurance agent, and they send us a check within a week.

I finally dropped AAA this year after being with them for 40 years. My car only has 14,000 miles on it and I haven't needed AAA for 7 years. That $55 is an outrageous membership fee.

I have State Farm Insurance and I have noticed in the fine print that they offer roadside assistance. I have been meaning to call and ask about it. My car is only a couple years old and I also feel like AAA is awfully expensive. I no longer need their maps and triptiks like in the olden days, and my car does not break down. However, in the past I have locked myself out of the car and also had flat tires and dead batteries with my old car, so it is reassuring to have someone to call. A flat tire can happen any time. I thin I will call my agent (who will then try to get me to upgrade) about their roadside assistance.

I have AAA for myself and wife. I keep it because my wife is out at night with her car many times in winter. (In her retirement, she has joined sevaral social "things" like learning in retirement, and two genealogy societies.

Well, guess what, last winter for trhe first time in my life I called AAA for help. I ruined a tire on a snow covered road and the temperatrue was 10 F. I struck a snow covered object. I think it was a cast iron drain grate that had been dislodged by a snow plow. Instead of struggling with it myself and I was recovering from a severe cold with possible cardiovascular complications, I decided I'd give AAA a try.

The tow truck arrived within 40 minutes. The operator cold not budge the lug nuts with normal force. I signed a release saying I would not hold AAA liable if he broke a stud by applying abnormal force. No go. The nut woudl not budge.

Just two weeks before, the "Firestone shop had mounted a new set of tires and over tightened the lug nuts. The
AAA operator winched my Jeep onto the back of the truck and we took it to the offending Firestone shop and dropped it there. I called my wife and she picked me up. I was geting cold before she arrived with the wind blowing.

All this service came at no charge to me. I feel that I got money's worth that night. However to be fair, there has been several years that I've had AAA and never used it. But it sure was a life saver on that cold winter night.

Jemdandy are you saying it was a lifesaver because you got service or because it was covered by AAA? My point is you can still get service and pay for it and I'm sure you could have had the same thing done. Why I have trouble with AAA it's another form of a service contract, like on appliances. By putting the $150/yr away for even 10 years (and I've gone far longer than that without need) I can pay $1500 for a service call and be money ahead financially.

I pay $ 60.00 a year for AAA for one member. Why is it so much higher for you cynic?

We have Progressive Insurance. 2 years ago DH decided to finally go through with his once in a lifetime trip....he road his motorcycle from PA to Colorado by himself and went elk hunting in the mountains of CO for 3-4 weeks.

We did everything we could think of to make him as safe as possible. Cold weather gear, warm weather, SPOT (it would track him anywhere and with a push of a button it would send out a distress signal activating search and rescue no matter where he was) and we added roadside assistance to our motorcycle insurance policy.

Well, he made it clear across the country, into the mountains, set up camp and started hunting. A week later he was headed into town for supplies, on the way back he got a flat tire. Not on the main road, some crazy mountain road in the middle of God's country. He called me and said I'm in deep sh!t now....haha I said call roadside assistance. He didn't think they would go into the wilderness. They did!! They asked for permission to ping his cell phone to get his exact location, an hour later a tow truck was there.

Took him and the bike to town. And the RSA we carry has what they call trip interruption. If you are over 100 miles from home, they will also pay to put you up in a hotel and cover your meals til your vehicle is repaired.

It was awesome!! We now have it on all vehicles plus the RV.

We also have the RV service and have used it twice for major calls. We do a lot of camping, hiking, and fishing off the main roads. First time we used it, it was about a 3 hour wait for a truck, but they were able to fix it on site. Forgot the cost, but it was a brake problem, I think $150+. Next time we were 9 hours from home and had transmission problems. Just the tow was $1800+ to a town in Washington state. The repair was less than that, but I was sure happy not to have both to pay. Just these two services have paid for a lifetime of cost.

What maddie said. Ours is only 60.00 a year. Saved way more than that using their travel services for airline and hotel bookings for Hawaii next month. More than paid for the AAA membership.
