Electrolux wall oven and tin foil use

Has anyone experienced tin foil melting in the bottom of an Electrolux wall oven? Without fully reading the safety instructions and not having a cookie sheet available,(the remodeling is not finished so pans are packed away), I used a sheet of tin foil. Half the foil piece is melted onto the floor of the oven. Electrolux has no ideas for me. I need help!

There was a thread about this on the appliance forum. As far as I remember, there were no solutions aside from replacing the bottom or the liner of the oven.

Yup - that's a real no-no - nothing to be done except live with it - it won't hurt the performance of the oven.

If it is heating unevenly I would have someone look at it. I have one and it heats very evenly. Is that true in all the modes? I must say I don't worry too much about keeping the racks new looking. I wipe them off and clean them with a green scrubber when I run the self clean. I found the racks were much easier to remove than some of the others I tried. It is one of the downsides to the roll out racks is that they are much harder to move around and require the side supports. I have had the oven for a few years and it is pretty easy now to take the rack and supports out. I think some of my ovens before this one had the supports made into the oven walls and no roll out racks so were easier too.

o.k. Please forgive me my question. Stupid me didn't realize the 'side' bars are also considered 'racks' so, I took them out, and it is busy doing the easy part...cleaning the flat bottom and sides. I'm left cleaning the racks. I really don't like my oven at all. They all took a step backwards when they took away our opportunity to lay foil down on the bottom of the oven. I was told it was my choice to leave in the racks or not. I was lied to by the salesman. grrrr.....so, what is a good cleaner to use to clean my racks with? anyone?

I thought I would update this thread with a recent experience that we had with our Double 30" Electrolux ovens. Installed this August, they seemed fine, until we released the time was running fast on the clock. No big deal. Then we noticed things were taking much longer to cook in the top oven than the bottom, as well as taking much longer to get to temperature. After buying some after market thermometers, we saw the top oven was running 150 degrees below what it said it was running at, unless convection was picked. Bottom oven seemed to run closer to desired temp, but still off a bit. Called Electrolux and had a service company take a look at it. We were not happy about having these problems in an expensive (and new) oven, and requested a replacement. Electrolux said they would get back to us. 1 week later we found out the swap was approved. New oven was delivered, and the temps are running dead on perfect. Every product can have a one off lemon, it's how they deal with it. I am VERY pleased with the service we received, and I would happily recommend Electrolux to anyone who is interested. FYI, regarding the blue flaking, we did have it on both the original oven and the replacement. After the oven was first installed and ran, there were some flakes on the bottom of the oven. After wiping them out the first time, we have never seen them occur again. I attribute it to the first time the oven is moved and not a big deal as it never happened a second time.

Sorry to hear that, I would think you shouldn't put anything on the bottom of the oven since that is where the heat comes from.

Were the racks or shelves not available at the time?

People put tin foil on the bottom of the ovens as a way of keeping the oven clean - just throw out the foil and replace it with new foil. In the old days, that worked. With modern ovens it doesn't - I'm not sure why but I suspect the finish on the oven and/or the hidden elements are the issue. Manufacturers do put warnings about this in the manual but many people don't bother to read it.

Now that ovens have hidden elements, the instructions clearly state NOT to line the base of the oven.
That includes using a cookie sheet.

Sara's right, no foil or cookie sheet. Make sure nothing is on the bottom of the oven door. I found that placing a cookie sheet on the bottom shelf helps catch a lot without damaging the oven. Sorry to hear about your oven.

The good news is that it doesn't seem to affect performance as far as people have been able to tell. It's just a little less attractive.

It underscores that it's important to read the instructions when you get a new appliance. Things change alot even in just a few years and even if it LOOKS the same it may operate completely differently.

Sorry you had this problem. I'm surpirsed only in that we installed our Elux wall oven ourselves and it had warnings all over the place not to use Foil. Not just in the manual, but stuck on the oven itself - I think too many installers take out all the papers and packing even when they say "LEAVE FOR OWNER TO REMOVE".

Thanks to everyone who wrote in...I will just live with the remnants and perhaps the foil left will eventually burn away. No one will see the inside of my oven but me! Lesson learned, though!

I found this thread from last fall. It doesn't really show a definitive answer, but perhaps you can email her through her My Page on the thread to see if she figured anything out. (or just make a post on the thread...she'll probably get it that way, too).
