help to make my cabinet color choice
Comments (3)Those are both nice colors - has your KD shown you sample doors? I would take the samples and see how they look in your kitchen's lighting. The chocolate has more red undertones that will look good with your red oak floors. It has a richer look on the cherry wood than the cognac, I think. I did Merit's truffle stain, which is pretty similar to chocolate, I think. I have reclaimed red oak floors, too....See MoreKD and cabinet experts-help with cabinet issues
Comments (21)so all, i got an email from my kd today saying she submitted a letter to medallion to send decorative ends only for the cabs with the spots. i paid for 9 finished ends and that would cover 3. having decorative ends on some but not all is going to look terrible! so of course i emailed back that it would look odd and unfinished and that i would rather just replace the replacement cab and live with the spots on the other two cabs. i really am at a loss here as to why anyone would think 3 of 9 face cabs would be ok to add decorative ends and further i am really disappointed that medallion isn't more concerned about these finish issues. i can't be the only one! any advice? at this point i can't replace the base cabs since the granite is in but am i within my rights as a consumer to have the newest one replaced? i did let my kd know that would be more than happy to have a medallion rep come to my house and inspect the flaws. she didn't know if the rep wants to do that so it has not come up in their conversations/emails. thanks everyone!...See MoreHelp! Am I Paying Too Much for a KD?
Comments (23)Snookums, I completely agree. I am seeing over the mountain to "not enough money to finish the job" - great design and no money to pay. So now (subject of a different thread) I have decided to hire the contractor, get the exterior work done, and get the interior work prepped but not order cabinets or countertop yet. I'm going to take some appliances from other floors and buy some new appliances, and cobble together more of an open-shelf kitchen that is usable but simple, as part of this phase. The goal now is to get done with the city-permitted part of the job (deck, stairs, door, and opening up walls, putting in a header etc.), get in a tenant on our ground floor for rental income, and just live in the space for a bit. And apply for a line of credit (we were denied one to add the deck and kitchen because we didn't have even a bare-bones 3rd kitchen in a 3 family, so now we will have a bare-bones 3rd kitchen). The goal is to then finance the cabinets and design part with a loan. I reailze this is a bit of a risky plan but I've been stuck for a few weeks and the longer we wait the longer it will be before we can get a much-needed tenant (we can afford the house with a tenant, really can't without one, and we're in month 3 without one right now; my goal would be to have a tenant in mid-June or starting in July, and not ...whenever). Back to the interior designer - I told her this plan and she still suggested coming out on an hourly or much smaller fixed fee basis to give advice (e.g., location of door off kitchen), and I'm inclined to get her help, but ask that it apply toward a fixed fee if we convert to that. I'd pay her the fixed fee or for her time, and we could go from there....See MoreKD help and suggestions
Comments (3)Kitchens are very individual rooms. Information from you is needed to help make yours what you want it to be. If you prefer to have someone make many of the design decisions for you and produce lots of 3D drawings, then this board is probably not the best place for you to find design help. Your best place would be an actual kitchen design showroom and a kitchen designer. However, you will also have to answer many of the questions posted in the link in order for a kitchen designer to help you in person as well as probably paying a design consultancy fee or deposit. If you cannot artuculate what you want from your kitchen, then no one can give you opinions on whether or not any design fulfils your wishes and needs....See Morepalimpsest
