Which induction cooktop do you have and what do you love about it
Comments (24)The GE Monogram requires 12" space underneath and most of the others don't. The Thermador, Miele, and Bosch have cook timers that turn off. The GE Monogram and Electrolux do not turn off. They all have different size elements so you can see which configuration works for you. Some of the models (Thermador,, Bosch) has direct touch for the heat level you want. Others you have to tap tap tap to get to the number (Monogram actually is touch and hold, and Miele I forget.) Electrolux I THINK is tap tap tap but not sure. (I did all this last month and am looking at my notes) I am confused about Power Boost but I wrote these notes when going through the user manuals. Maybe someone can clear this up??? Thermador: other in zone has to be off Miele: Booster Power share Bosch: other in zone has to be off Monogram: Power Share if other is off Electrolux: Power Share-- other DOESN'T have to be off. Is that correct? Another thing is how long the burner will stay on if you remove a pan from the element (like for shaking the pan around). Again, This is what I wrote from the manual but you should double check. I'm not guaranteeing any info : ) Thermador: 90 seconds Miele: Pan Remove 3 minutes Bosch: Doesn't Specify Monogram: 30 seconds Electrolux: 3 minutes...See MoreWhich piece of Le Creuset do you just HAVE to have?
Comments (10)Kim, My favorite and most used is the 15.5 oval, sometimes known as the Goose Pot. I use this for soup, stew, chili and Tomato based sauces on a regular basis. I also use it as a roaster. A 14lb turkey fits just right, as I proved to my bride on Thanksgiving! This size is also perfect for braising. A whole beef brisket is not a problem. The Oval shape is very accomodating when it comes to large roasts and legs etc. My next favorite is the 9qt round. That being said In my opinion get the largest you can afford. But be advised the larger pieces are very heavy. It is my duty to wash anything sized over 31/2 qt!! Cheers, Butch...See MoreRobot Vacuum: To iRobot Roomba OR Neato?
Comments (17)I have a Neato. His name is Rocky. This is my second Neato -- the first one gave up the ghost after about a year and a half which was disheartening. I have 2 dogs (one is a fur exploding shepherd mix) and 2 hairy cats. We run ours daily while we dog walk, and I'll say it replaces 80% of the need to vacuum. Maybe my cleaning standards are low, lol. Mine has no wifi and I don't use the scheduling feature; I just push the start button and let him go. The Good: The front corners and the little side brush are effective at getting into corners and running along the baseboards. The dirt hopper is large and it STILL gets filled each time I run it. I got the pet model with a rotating brush and it is very good at getting pet hair on both rugs and hard floors. It sits low to the ground and can get under pretty low clearances The Bad: He does get stuck a fair amount. We live in an old house and have black floor grates for our furnace...these tend to trip him up. He also gets tangled on long rug fringe, but not short fringe. He's temperamental and we have had to reboot him and calibrate the battery a couple of times. Overall, I wish he was less finicky but I can't imagine life without him. House cleaning is my least favorite chore and he makes a world of difference. I expect the robots will keep improving over time, and I fully expect to replace mine with another when this one goes. I'm hoping someone invents a dusting robot too....See MoreWhich nuts do you toast and which do you leave raw?
Comments (10)I might be 'nuts' and missing something, but I always toast all my spices and nuts...gently on a low slow 'white' enameled cast iron...white pan so I can see the toast/roasting...blooms the oils. So fragrant. Just minor toasting, minor browning. Like pale toast. I've been roasting/toasting all night,...chili oil, (sesame seed/chili flake), pepitas, sesame, sunflower seed, garlic chip, onion, chive...for a spice blend...holiday stuff I have a big bag of 'seems to be fresh' chestnuts. Oh I so hope they are good after many years not so good. So yes, I toast all nuts. but not roast brown too far. Minor heat blooms flavor. The oils in nuts like a bit of heat....See Morenctal
