Looking for a great cabinet shop in Oregon?

The Cabinet Factory in Eugene is a gem - a real find. For those who are local, give them a look. I have seen three of their projects and they do it all (inset, flush overly, etc).

Our bid, so far, without paint, install and hardware is $12,600 (this includes 40 sq ft of cabinets in kitchen with mostly drawers & a pullout pantry; an inset entryway bench;a 7 1/2' butcher block island & a window seat in DR. The bid is for inset with flush overlay being less expensive, of course. We still have the MBR and closet to figure out but I'm very impressed.

The shop is small and is run by a father/son team. One of their best assets, I think, is that they know how to listen and have creative, inventive ideas/solutions to quirky issues.

There is a house plan that's been published in Fine Home Building for the last couple of years (architect, David Edrington) and the cabinets were made by this company. I have no vested interest in this other than I wasn't impressed with what was available to me locally and began a search that ended up not 45 minutes away from where I live.

I think they may be booked out for a bit, but I just wanted to share the wealth.

Thank you for sharing that information, Lisa. I haven't seen too many people who identify themselves as from Oregon, so it's exciting to find someone else who is in the area who can provide recommendations (or warnings) as merited. I will definitely save this for future reference.

Rev-a-shelf inserts can often be much cheaper when purchased separately. If you're planning on any glass fronted cabs, oftentimes it's cheaper to order the cab glass ready and then get the glass from a local shop. Soft close for cabinet hinges can be retrofitted easily, but you should order the drawers with soft close because I'm pretty sure the soft close feature is integral to the drawer glide. Most importantly get several quotes on your cabs, even if you're sure of the brand. Separate distributers can have big price discrepancies.

Hi, annab6. I don't know if it is too late for this recommendation, but we've been steered to Elm cabinets and met with a great shop on Staten Island - Independent Kitchens and Baths on Hylan Blvd that we plan to go with. Good luck.

So glad you had a great time! I forgot to mention the Blue Moon Cafe-primarily because they're not open for dinner. But yes, that is a personal fave. I'd not eaten at the Rodeo because my SIL is a vegetarian, so we usually go somewhere that will accomodate him, but I've heard good things about it. Glad you liked So Chic. I hear you on the purses-I always end up buying a couple every time I go there. Did you happen to go thru the 'tunnel' at Oceanside's beach? I love the little surprise of the rocky outcropping when you get to the other side. My SIL and I always take the dogs there when I come to visit, he skips rocks and I hunt for agates. You're more than welcome to come back to Oregon any time!

It depends what is offered by your tin supplier. Which also depends if you are doing a pre-constructed brand building (like Morton) or constructing the building then siding it with any brand tin. There are many colors that do date the buildings. If you think about the colors/combos of buildings 20+ years old that you have seen....I think about a light tan with green or burgundy trim. I also feel the roof color on the base like your very first photo dates the building. Regardless, I will probably think your building is dated in 20 years! The hard part about picking the colors is using such small samples when the material looks so different on a 12*60 wall in the sun. Some of the tan colors have too much yellow in them and can be hard to match properly. Ultimately, you won't please everyone with the color you choose. Pick a combination that you and your wife like. Check out the morton buildings website and Astro buildings website for more inspiration. I know Astro has a color visualizer you can mess around with. I don't think I would do stone for a commercial building. You can make it nice, even add a cupola. But keep it simple enough to say that you are there to be serious about the business/service you provide.

Another Oregonian here. :) We are building in Oregon City....hopefully very soon! Lisa, I am thinking your Cabinet makers would not travel this far, but if you or anyone else knows of any cabinet makers in the Portland area they would recommend that would be great! Thanks!

Just had to chime in, we're in Oregon, too, just outside Portland. We are working with an all-in-one remodel firm, so they have a custom cabinet maker they use but I'm not sure who they are. We haven't started yet, hoping to get permits soon!

I'm in Portland too - and it's so nice to know you all are here! Our new custom cabinets are being hung tomorrow (yay!!), and so far I've been really really pleased with the cabinetmaker: Doug Chamblin Furniture. I'd highly recommend him.

I'm in Portland too. I am using Mike's Custom Cabinets just outside of Portland. I have used him before and really liked his work. I am having him install inset Cherry Shaker style cabinets and think he is quite reasonable.

Here is another Portlander. My cabinet installers finished last Friday. Some of them need some tweaking, however, including 2 door & 1 drawer replacements.

I'm waiting for my bid on flooring & backsplash. Can't wait to finish up!

I'm here from Oregon City. Luckymom23 you'll have to let me know where you're building. We are out in the Redland area and I'm a mom to four. ; )

We our DIY and have chosen IKEA cabinets. We just installed our first pantry cabinets in an alcove of our kitchen but won't get to tear down the rest of the kitchen until dh has a couple weeks off. I won't let him take out my kitchen with only weeknights and weekends to work on replacing it. : D

I'm in Portland. We're mid-remodel and are using Andrew's Fine Woodworking, which is located in Clackamas. He was highly recommended by everyone involved in the process: KD, architect, GC. Not inexpensive but I think it will be worth it. First installation comes tomorrow! I can report again later, if that would be helpful. A
