Wow! That looks like quite a destination place, the food, the ceiling. I'm in CA and you are tempting me to make a trip there. Do tell some more about what you are doing with this place. I think I missed the details, but it looks like a success.

Caroline, the restaurant looks wonderful and that ceiling is flat-out incredible! I loved seeing the actual plated meals, too. Even though I don't usually buy Southern Living magazine, I do want to pick up that issue, so please keep us posted as to when it's out. Best wishes to you all on this upcoming article. trailrunner: I took a look at the website. That is so interesting about your DS and DIL's profession--esp. as my DS is quite fascinated by gourmet cooking. He tapes all the cooking shows and just salivates over it all and since we remodeled our kitchen both he and my older DD fight over who gets to cook--they even plate their food; unfortunately no one is too interested in dishwashing. :( I could totally see him going to a culinary school--though I think my DH has other ideas. What a wonderful family business and if I am ever out that way I would definitely love to eat there. Yum!Yum!

Lynne, Pesky, Val and tea you and all the others are so kind. The servings are so generous and yet not too much. The idea beind fine dining is to stimulate the palate but leave a place for the rest of the meal. DS1 does not do small plates , although there is a wonderful niche for that too. We have the perfect size servings that allow for appetizers,entree', and dessert. All the meals including the caramel sauce and every icecream is in-house made. Nothing is left undone. DS and DIL and the staff are the most sincere and hardest working young people. Afterall...DS1 was a US Marine....Mom who is proud !

Suzi must not live in an urban area. I see your prices as typical in the Portland area. Even on the lower end for some of your entrees. My DD's took me to a lovely, upper=mid level Italian ristorante for Mothers Day two years ago, and a plate of ravioli was $19 (included bread...wow) and a glass of Nero Davalo was $8.

ree: I have been OT for a week :) Southern Living came to do a story on the Waverly AL, Old 280 Boogie , last weekend. This is a festival that celebrates the re-routing of the hwy. 280 that runs through Waverly on the way to B'ham AL. We were pleasantly surprised when the folks from the mag, wanted to further investigate the restaurant in Waverly where DS1 and DIL are chef/manager. They came back Thurs. night for dinner and more pics. Now they will send the writer sometime in the next couple months and then place an article in the S.L.mag. The other article on the Boogie will run next year and this article will run sooner and be a separate feature.

Pesky: thank you, one only needs to look at menus throughout the country and we are right in the mid range. Given what is happening to prices EVERYWHERE it is a huge challenge for DS to plan and execute such amazing meals. We have the added challenge of being very far from any cosmopolitan area so he has to pay more to have specialty items brought in. No GreenMarket on Union St in NYC for this chef :).

My taste buds are salivating...especially for the grilled lamb chops, and the grilled sea bass. The food is beautifully prepared and plated, the ambiance is lovely and unusual....Too bad we can't have virtual tastings on this website!

That ceiling is amazing.

And the food...I found myself looking back through the previous event menus savoring (even if only in my mind) all the wonderful sounding dishes. What an absolute dream to have such a talented son & d-i-l and to be able to participate in their success...every Mom should be so blessed.

Susie, IMHO many posters on here refrain from making negative comments in response to something they might not particularly like whenever possible for the sake of not hurting an OP's feelings...ack, I'm tempted to make one now but instead am asking you to please show some sort of forethought when posting. Not everyone likes everything, of course, but unless the OP is specifically asking for your no holds barred critique you might consider keeping negative comments to yourself. If you don't have anything nice to say move along to the next thread. And when an OP asks "so, what do you think?", "any thoughts", "what would you do?" then let'm have it! But maybe not so rudely so that your opinion, and not your rudeness, will be heard?

I guess if we consider that we are all interested in food and eating out and designs and ideas and pretty pictures then it isn't so OT afterall :). The atmosphere and courses look fabulous. And, by compariison to suburban Chicago fine dining, your pricing is right in-line.

Looking at the menu, I harken to a comment from Rodney Dangerfield, "Did you ever look at a menu and say 'Yes'".
