Tech, that is too cute! I have seen them before and have been meaning to make one for my daughter. She uses the Crayola Twistables because regular crayons melt in her little hot hands.

My BIL is a firefighter so his son is into all things firehouse so dh and I thought this fabric fit. It is cool.

I made one of these for a friends kid. I refused to pay $10 for the pattern, so I eyeballed it. It came out nice, I will probably make some for friends kids so I have last minute little one gifts. I also plan to make a few for church for visiting little ones to use during the service.

me too. I've been asked to make one for a member's little guy, too. We're going to put a few in the back,with crayons, a bible coloring book, and other quiet things, that kids can get on the way in, put back on the way out.

Very cute! I may copy your pattern. Becky, our church keeps "quiet bags" in a basket when you first enter. The kids love them and always put them up on their way out. We even have a children's version of the church service booklet in the bag and crayons, finger puppets, etc.

I'm going to make another one soon, I'll take pics of the process and try to put a pattern together for you, bev. It is SO simple. I used straight lines, one inch apart, and quilted the crayon pockets into the front, then put the two sides together. I used 1 ince painters tape as a guide, put it every other inch. Took me about 2 1/2 hours to do the whole bag start to finish.

That is adorable. I can't sew very well, so I'm not sure I could get it together so well.

I did find the pattern online though if anyone wants to pay for it. i personally would appreciate it if you could take pics and put a pattern together dragongoddess. I have trouble following normal sewing patterns. For some reason things just don't click..LOL

This would be a great thing for my kids to have in the car. I have 3 boys 8,6,4 and all they do fight if there is nothing to occupy them.

Thanks for the compliments. It was really easy. I did buy the pattern, it was less than $10. I'll bring the pattern down and post whose it is, I think it was clothworks, but I'm not sure that might be the purse for the 21 year old niece that I'm working on now.

Dragongoddess - 2 1/2 hrs is about right. The pattern had you quilt the fabric first, then attach the crayon pockets and assemble the bag. I took this as an opportunity to practice my free motion quilting (which stinks but what 5 year old cares).

OK, I looked at the pattern. It is done by Clotheslinequilts. They have a webpage (link below). They have 3 different crayon bags/purses, and you can buy their patterns at local quilt stores. If your lqs doesn't carry their patterns they have a link that sells them for $7.50 plus $1.50 shipping.

I don't see why you couldn't just sew crayon-sized pockets to the side of an ordinary tote bag, whether you make it yourself from scratch, or modify a store-bought one.

I've made these in the past, but mine lay flat and 1 side has a pocket for coloring book, the other side a pocket for notebook and pencil and then slots for all the crayons...It folds in the middle and is held together with some velcro and had 2 handles. I had seen something like it years ago and sort of made up my own version...Kids loved them....
