Hi Everyone,

I've been watching the site for a long time and have finally signed a contract. The county inspector was here today and gave his approval for the permit. The HOA is giving me a little hassle on the pool equipment but we'll see how that goes.

Was wondering if ya'll could look at the pics/specs and advise if I have missed anything or should consider changing?

CSD Pools -- I'm having some challenges with my HOA on the placement of the equipment pad so I need to develop some ideas to diguise this from the neighbors.

I spoke with a landscape designer yesterday who basically advised my plan is not that great and has too much decking. He thinks it's going to look to "hard" and I should consider making some changes to soften it up. Any ideas?

I advised my PB yesterday that I need to make some changes on the design before we build -- he seems okay but a bit concerns.

My potted trees require an area about 6ft by 4ft to 6ft by 6ft per tree depending on how much alley one needs between trees. In my opinion a high tunnel needs to be taller than a forced air greenhouse. A high tunnel uses natural ventilation for cooling. So the top half will be much hotter than the lower half. With trees about 7-8 ft tall, a height of 14-16 ft would be ideal. Twelve ft might work for a high tunnel and probably would work for a greenhouse. On a greenhouse the rule of thumb is one air exchange per minute to limit temperature rise to 15F above ambient. With evaporative cooling I can keep it as cool inside as out. But I'm in an area with much lower humidity than you. The Mango are going to add greatly to your heating bill. You must keep them from freezing all winter rather than just during bloom. Your heating bill just increased about 20 times. I won't try them without a good commercial grade heating system like mine. With that you almost need fans for cooling rather than natural ventilation because it is much easier to automate. Plus Mango are too big for pots. Citrus will work in pots but they too need freeze protection all winter. The pluot you listed would be the last two on my list. F Supreme is very hard to pollinate. F Queen is very sweet but lacks flavor IMO. The others on my list are better IMO. Good luck!!

This is especially important in North Florida, where late spring frosts may damage the grass. Delaying spring fertilization until the turf is actively growing and can use the fertilizer also reduces the potential for nitrogen leaching from fertilizer. Likewise, don't fertilize too late in the year, as this can slow regrowth the following spring. An application of iron can enhance spring green-up. Applying nitrogen on zoysiagrass in early spring and late fall significantly increases the risk of large (brown) patch disease.

Hey JT and Valsound, Thanks for the great pointers. On another note, Friday, I got my ag tires mounted and I installed them on the mower. I was astounded at how much more traction it got. Just to test it out, I decided to try to do more leveling of our side yard and I was really pleased at how it was performing. For about 15 minutes, I was able to do a pretty neat job of back dragging loose top soil to fill some bumps and pockets. As time wore on though, I began to notice that the transmission just seemed to poop out. Eventually it got where it wouldn't pull backwards if the Johnny bucket had any down-force on it. I got frustrated and decided to go do something else. Then yesterday, I fired it up again to check it out and wouldn't you know it, that thing would drag the bucket all over the place with the front tires off the ground (for about 15 minutes). This was really strange because the transmission is new and there is no dirt on top, the fan is clean and runs fine, and the belt isn't slipping. The forward motion also seems to be affected, but to a somewhat lesser extent. So I reached the conclusion that the oil the factory puts in it must undergo some kind of radical change as it gets hot. It's like it becomes much easier to compress, or either the viscosity becomes thinner and some of it blows by the pump motor pistons. Anyway, I decided to do something drastic - I probably should have checked with you JT, on how you accomplished opening the fluid level check plug. After having a real stinker of a time and a couple of busted knuckles, I drilled a half inch hole in the side of the chasis so that I could get a Allen wrench straight into the socket head of the plug. It worked like a champ, and hopefully since it's below the bolts holding the transaxle mounting plate, it won't weaken the chasis to much. I was able to easily remove the plug and then then look through the hole (with wheel removed). I used a clean toothpick to check the level of oil. I was surprised to see that the fluid was slightly below the level of the hole about a quarter inch, especially with it being a brand new transmission. So now, I am wondering if I should buy some conventional 20W-50 to top it off, or just bite the bullet and change the oil with full synthetic. Recommendation?

lindanj - the company is "Cottage Home" and they sell tables made from reclaimed English pine, as well as painted farm tables and furniture made out of barn wood. They also have a nice selection of hutches and such. I may end up purchasing a hutch from them also, but I need to see how the table and chairs work in my space first. If you go to the link below and scroll down, you'll see one of their "Winston" trestles on the right side and the table just below that has the breadboard top that I ordered. They don't have a photo yet of the "Chateau" trestle base that I'm having built, but it's based on the RH table. It's nice because I was able to customize it and order an 8' table. I also ordered the 18" extension leaves, but those are extra. My table is made from reclaimed wood and will be rough hewn, but won't have the weathered gray tones like the RH table. That's fine for me because my furnishings lean more towards the brown tones and I have my choice of a light, medium, or dark brown wax finish. The company is in Maine but I was told that my table is being built in California. If you call, they are more than happy to answer any questions that you might have. I might question the skimmer and returns. I would think that most pools that size would have (2) skimmers, one at each end and at least 4 returns. We are doing a 33' x 17' free form and have (2) skimmers and 5 returns (one is for the Pentair pool cleaner). You also list your Pentair and pool and spa cleaner and I don't think it will clean the spa.

As far as softening it, my guess is that he is referring to the large amount of concrete you have and that it is mainly one big piece. Maybe put some flower beds along the house to break it up a little. Or maybe trim some of the decking to give it a more flowing look less square?

Thanks cmoses - a friend of mine who has a pool recommended the same thing on the skimmers. I'll also talk to the PB about adding another return. Do you know if this costs any more money?

I like the idea of the flower beds - I think this may help bring it together and give it a bit more character. I'm also thinking of moving the spa closer to the house and reducing some of the decking as well.

Thanks for the advice, it's exactly what I've been needing. The equipment and design has been a huge learning process.

mysilly, the PBs on this board will know better of course, but our 1st design was almost exactly like yours as far as 18x32 freeform, 450 or so sq ft and it was going to be 2 skimmers and 6 returns. more returns=more uniform circulation = better water quality especially in the hot south

I would add another skimmer and I only see one pump to run the filter, spa and bubblers. The cleaner will only clean your pool. I have been in this market since 96 and this is the first time I have heard of CSD Pools.

If you are asking if I am in Atlanta, then yes I am. I checked the website and niether the company name nor the owner's name rings a bell. I started out in Atlanta in 96 as a sub-contracting excavator so I have dug pools for just about every major player in the Atlanta market at one time or the other. I have over 1000 holes to my name in the 11 years that I dug pools so you can see how I know alot of the companies in the industry. This doesn't mean that the company you chose is not a good one, just that I have never come across them before on either side of the industry.
