Looks like I am marrying a country boy....

I was raised up a country girl... and so living out here in the sticks on a little chunk of ground with no other houses in sight, (at least not in the summer).. is like Paradise to me...

Well, I prayed to God that if I were to have a new man in my life after my husband passed away, that He send to me a country boy... and my prayer was answered... and holy moly joe.. My country boy moved right on over here to Tennessee from Missouri / Iowa....(he has two homes) and commenced to buying tractors, and all the implements that go with it... He already had a large (25') trailer, and a honkin heavey duty pick up to haul it with, and a variety of other country pieces of equipment.. like a backhoe/front end loader with a bush hog...etc...

Well my crazy fellow just got done haveing 469 tomato plants put in the ground.. along with Lord only knows how many peppers of various types.... not to mention 151 blueberry bushes. He has purchased peach, pear, apple, cherry and fig trees and planted them... and is working on making a grape arbor for planting no less than 6 difference grapes.... and some raspberries, thornless blackberries, and 100 strawberry plants... Next he plans to plant an acre of sweet corn, (both early and late varieties) and some okra, cukes, squash, cantalopes, and watermelons.... The man is having the time of his life...

All I need to do is water if I want to..... and he will take care of the rest...

He says his prayer was answered as well... as his 2 ex wives were strictly city girls and had no interest in living in the country....so looks like we both hit the jackpot this time around...

Now what to do with all these tomatos????? LOL He wants to take this stuff to a farmers market to sell .... What a cool hobby eh??

Thanks so much for all of the good suggestions! Cass, I do intend to test the PH and do some investigating. At the moment, however, we are in the middle of "de-bagging" and "de-tying up", and pruning, mulching, re-tying up, and feeding all of our roses and other plants all around our house, because the scaffolding is finally down (yay!), and the painters have moved on to the garage. So, I don't have lots of time right now to spend on these containers, and my main concern is to see if I can feed & water them enough to make the roses happier, and then I will play Sherlock Holmes later. I did think of the water issue when I noticed they were not growing, so I have been giving them extra water for a while. I felt so guilty when I thought of the PH issue that I went out and bought a bunch of that MAXSEA plant food (the kind for acid loving plants) , which is really expensive, but will be worth it if it works on the others as it is working on Susan Louise. Thinking about it, if pour planting soil was the issue, that might explain the immediate response to the food, although I was giving them normal food before. We have had the "soil horizon" issue here before, because our soil is very much clay. Last year I transplanted a Margo Koster, which died within 6 months. When we dug it up we discovered that in digging it a "big hole" what we had really done was dig it a bathtub that didn't drain, because the clay was so dense. Anyway, that certainly might be an issue. However, the 7 containers are all over the garden, and in some places are in beds that have been amended & planted for decades, where the soil is in pretty good shape. I will keep you posted on what I find out, and how they do with their new food. Thanks again for all of the good suggestions. jackie

BUT Mark's Starship is a tc sport while mine is an actual plant sport. ========>>> isnt there an FAQ dumbing down TC [ i put it that way cuz some dummy wrote it ..] .... i will sum it up they take a piece of meristem... which is like an artichoke... strip off all the leaves of the artichoke ... down to the meristem .... so they have the crown to start with .... and sterilize it to within an inch of its life .... so its still the same plant ... they then place that in some jello/agar which has hormones to release dormant buds .... a few weeks later they take it to a chamber and start slicing off little plantlets .... which are still the same plant ... now they have crown + leaves ... then they get a different jar with rooting hormone in the jello .... and grow some roots on all the pieces cut of ... and it is still the same plant ... and now a complete plant with roots, crown and leaves ... in a few more weeks.. when they all might be an inch big.. they move them to liner trays by the hundreds ... and they are still the same plant ... and there you have TC in a nutshell ... now.. because hosta are inherently unstable.. lets say for every hundred of the same plant ... out will pop the weirdo .. centered.. edged.. just different from momma ... and that is how a TC produced sport ... and .. IN THEORY .. would be no different than your sport .. if they look the same ... though in all reality .. only maturity.. and a DNA test is going to tell you if they are exactly the same ... you can divide or stomp your plant.. to start releasing the dormant buds.. to increase your odds of getting the little weirdos .... and eventually.. you will have 250,000 copies of momma .... and a good percentage of sports.. just like the TC guys ... i doubt your are thinking of registering it and putting it on the market.. but in all reality.. these TC guys have swamped the market with hundreds of look alikes.. because each lab names the same sport and takes it to market [God forbid they throw away something that they have this much invested in, even if it is a look alike] .. and frankly.. no one is going to bother to do the DNA to find out ... ergo presto.. a bunch of TC sports of something like striptease.. that all look familiar ... so in specific answer to your question... yes it is the same sport.. until someone else proves me wrong ... regardless ... it is a thrill to 'capture' your own.... you may resume having fun in your garden .. lesson over ken

I have been married about 20 yrs. My husband and I have 2 children, i also have 3 others from my previous marriage which they are grown now and have moved out, he has 4 children from his 2 previous marriage. About 4 yrs ago i started working at a hospital. There is this guy that also works at the hospital, and not to long ago i told him that i really liked him more than a friend, he said he already knew that. Weeks ago he expressed he had feelings for me as well. We started seeing each other at a rest area for about an hour or so. We tell each other that we love one another. We have only kissed and held each other, we talk about making love, but we haven't hit that level yet. I think you would really enjoy the design work/ideas that the designer, Charles Faudree does. Below is a link to his website. You can go to the library to check out the books. Well technically, I met him online.... but....I know his family and have known them for over 20 years.He emailed me and we got to talking about who we knew in common and then he called me on the phone... and asked me if I wanted to go to the Ryman in Nashville ... and have dinner in Nashville, my choice of eateries... and that was the begining.... He drove in from Missouri each weekend until Christmas, when he left to go to Iowa.. (his son's family is there also).. He went to spend the holidays with them...and asked if I wanted to go with him...but I declined...
Well he called from Iowa, and said that he and Jason had talked it over and his whole family wanted to meet me and wanted me tocome to Iowa for the holidays... So, Larry drove 10 hours to come and get me and we went to Iowa..where I stayed with his son's family... Our first real kiss was in Madison County in the exact spot that Clint Eastwood kissed Meryl Streep at the covered bridge there...
He brought me home again right after the first of the year, and asked me to marry him ...and so he never left... We have made numerous trips to Missouri and Iowa since then and it has been tons of enjoyment...and he treats me like expensive crystal...
He told me to name the date for the wedding... but I want to wait until we know one another REALLY well first...

And yes I love putting food by... been doing that nearly all my life...

Later folks, he wants to get going to Lowes...

Tobygirl...you and Larry have something in common !! His nickname is Toby... =0)

Larry was single for nearly 10 years and only dated 1 other lady to any extent,( a couple of months) and she did not get to meet the family..... but Larry told me that the moment he heard my voice on the phone...it resonated through him and he knew right then and there that he just had to meet me. When he did, he said he knew he never wanted to leave... When he brought me home from Iowa, after a stopover in Missouri,,,, he simply never left... He went right out and purchased new furniture and moved himself right into the front bedroom where I had my computers set up and a daybed...which he promptly moved into the sunroom.....along with his own computer... He asked me to marry him last Valentine's day... and I accepted... I am considering next Valentine's day for us to marry, in our church of course...
We get to travel when we want to, but with this truck garden, that is going to have to be shorter trips for awhile..

Everyone in my church family just love him as does my daughter and even my stepson and my inlaws on Bob's side of the family have welcomed him into the fold.....

So, yes.... God has most certainly blessed me with a very special man... and I am so grateful that I did find him, even though he is a tad younger than me... but only by a couple of years... and it doesn't matter to him, so it simply doesn't matter to me either..

Thank you all for all your well wishes... I so appreciate it.... We are living under the same roof.. but seperate rooms... He understands my stance on my Christian beliefs...and respects that... but he is getting mighty antsy...lol

I am uploading photos to Photobucket that I will be sharing soon..Got a few more to take down in the meadow.. as we go along... It is hard to see all the 150 blueberry bushes cuz they are only a couple feet tall and baby bushes.. but I will do my best...

My raised beds are now gone since Larry says he needs that space to build a tractor barn and he says I won't need them with all the veggies in the meadow anyway... sounds good to me.. lol
I just wish I could get into the garden and get my hands dirty... but I can't until the neursurgeon gets done trying to get my back fixed.. I have an arthritis spur pushing on a nerve and my spinal cord some.. but I can ride the lawn tractor and even drive the front end loader though.. He is teaching me that stuff.. and I tee totally loving it...

I am not a bona fide cougar.. just a cougette.. since Larry is only 3 years younger.. but he fills out a tee shirt real nice still... lol

Congratulatios!

There is an interesting story about the bridge featured in the movie, The Bridges of Madison County". When the townspeople heard which bridge was going to be used, they scurried and restored the bridge before the movie company arrived. But the movie company wanted an "old" bridge, so they set about destroying much of the restoration. A few boards were broken and the bridge painted to look old. LOL.

After the movie was shot, they returned the bridge to its former restored shape.

Larry is a huge John Wayne Fan..and so he had photos taken of us at the John Wayne house, etc. at Winterset. We plan to go again in summer when we won't be freezing our butts off.. it was windy the day we went and it was soooooo cold...but still had lots of fun...

I had pretty much figured I wouldn't have another man in my life after being with Bobfor 42+ years....but it does get lonely out here at times...and although I have lots of wonderful friends... it isn't the same...and I really longed for the affection of a good man. My late husband, although he loved me with all his heart... was ill for most of the past 18 years and so lost his desires...so to speak...but Larry is getting antsy and wants us to marry...but I am not quite ready to take that major step... He is now going to church with me, and the Lord is drawing him to Him, but Larry is resisting... as he has been virtually unchurched all of his life...and so this is a major hurdle for us...but he does respect my beliefs and is just now beginning to understand why I believe. So God is working on his heart...
Time to go to church...
