Comments (6)I asked the woman showing me the Oceanside glass mosaics when they would start to look dated. She said, "Just about the same time your espresso cabinets look dated." :-) On my short list is Pratt & Larson's Intaglio series. The have a fabric-like quality to them that looks fresh, despite the 6" square or subway format. I can't help but wonder if we'll start to see more pattern on tiles like this. I think they are really gorgeous, but I probably won't be using them. Such a shame... Here is a link that might be useful: Intaglio...See MoreEspresso Cabinets
Comments (12)amysrq: No, I'm not holding out. I've randomly posted pics quite a few times = mostly hidden in other threads. It's far from complete so I've not done a "formal" spread (we are DIY and dealing with major life issues on top of just general living so it's taking quite a while). This pic is a bit out of date (backsplash, potfiller and stove are now in). There's more in the album below and in a few others. Comments (13)Our kitchen is certainly not traditional and we do not have any white in it, but we do have very dark wood floors and chocolate stained cabinets. They are very similar stains and the difference is only noticeable in bright natural light. It's not a look I see very often, almost never actually, but it was the only floor color we liked for the whole house and the stain for the cabinets was also the only one we liked of our options. We did not exactly have a vision in mind when we began (we're young, first-timers), and maybe we would make different decisions now, but we like our kitchen... except for still being unable to decide on granite a year later. It sounds like you have a vision and a very nice one, so I am all for the espresso/white combination on espresso floors. I think a lot of people immediately shake their heads at dark floors with dark cabinets, especially when the stains are very similar, because it's not that commonplace, so it's hard to find an instance of it done right, and fear that the kitchen will on the whole be too dark. Without a layout it is of course hard to comment on where the white cabinets should be placed, but what I might suggest is placing the white cabinets in the area(s) that don't get as much natural light from windows and such. This will keep your espresso cabinets nearer the pools of natural light and your kitchen looking brighter overall. Good luck; I think it will look beautiful....See Moredark espresso cabinet color almost black
Comments (22)Myself, if I have doubts about a choice, I go with something I know I will like. I don't want to risk a mistake, especially on something as expensive as cabinets or counters. I would not be able to replace them and would have to live with the bad choice. I am not a risk taker in that way. I went with medium cherry cabinets with a cinnamon stain and a Java wash. My counter will be Corian in tumbleweed which is fairly neutral. I saw the counter in a kitchen design display and loved it. I am a "weenie" when it comes to being risky with choices, so I pretty much go safe, traditional with the big purchases....See MoreCEFreeman
