while I didn't go through the building process of my kitchen cabinets (they came w/ the house), I think they made very high quality custom cabinets.

I used Country Craftsmen in Uxbridge - I know it would be a haul for you but they do AMAZING work (you can find mine on the FKB) and are wonderful people. I know the winter was slow for them so they may be able to have a good turn-around for you.

Uxbridge is not that far from where my parents live, so I could visit them in conjunction to a visit home.

Interesting about Kennebec. I contacted them to do my kitchen. THey were my first choice... a little more expensive than my budget, but not so much so that we couldn't have stretched, but the timing was 8 months lead time which would have killed the whole project.

I will definitely contact them again about the bar and will ask for Liz. Thanks for the contact!!

Here's a second vote for Country Craftsmen. I heard of them via mnhockeymom's postings and decided to visit them. They are wonderful and we are doing our kitchen with them. Turns out they have also done a bunch of work for people in my town and when I ran into one and asked she loves them too. They are super nice and super talented.

Tracy - I am SO excited that you visited with Billy and Pattie and have decided to use them. I feel like they became family to us and wish daily that the money fairy ;-P would visit us so that we could remodel our horrible upstairs baths and then I could work with CC again! My builder is so amazed at how beautiful their work is that he's stopped sending his clients to the typical Rutt and Plain & Fancy dealers around here and tells them that the drive to Uxbridge is well worth the trip! Please say "hi" to them from me next time you see them!!

mnhockeymom - I definitely will! They are so nice :) When I first visited them I told them how I saw your post and decided to call - I wasn't the first either! Turns out someone else had come and mentioned it and showed Pattie the forum and the post - too cute!!!

[quick funny story - I used to go into the showroom and tell Pattie about things my "friends" did - yes, I was referring to fellow GW'ers - she'd ask me, "where do you find these ideas?" so one day I finally fessed up and showed her this forum as well as the FKB - we ended up putting the FKB into hers and Billy's internet "favorites" so they could look at all the great kitchens there! She's convinced I'm addicted to the internet :-)]

mnhockeymom - I am also in the Boston area and looking for a cabinet maker. Your kitchen is gorgeous. I have my layout but I need help adding some really great details. Did they help with this? Do you have any idea how their price would compare to Woodmode/Brookhaven? Your input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

getitdone - yes, Billy and Pattie were great with giving ideas for things that I hadn't considered yet or hadn't resolved design-wise. Billy's been in this busines FOREVER so he can conjure up in his head things that other clients have done, pull out pictures or draw up an example and do something unique for you. I've built 4 custom homes prior to moving to MA and taking on this renovation and they were, by far, the most fun and interesting team to work with! As for price comparison to the WoodMode, I can almost guarantee they'll be less expensive. I had priced Rutt, Plain & Fancy, DuraSupreme, Crystal and WoodMode (yes, I sadly spent time with THREE different showrooms before pitching all of their quotes for Country Craftsmen!) and what I loved about CC was that not only was their bid 40% less than my lowest bid of all of those, but also I was getting every little detail on my wish list - painted beadboard backs on the open cabs? check! Different wood and beadboard w/ apron on the hutch? check! Varied crown on different pieces? check! finished sides on everything? check! etc, etc - all of the others left me with something less than I wanted and yet quoted me double to triple what I paid with CC.

pluckymama - what about Crown Point - they're about 90 mins from Manchester - people on GW who've used them LOVE them! Also, I think Kennebec was mentioned above.

I found Country Craftsmen by googling, "cabinetmaker in Boston." Somebody wrote a glowing review here. We soon found out they are as good as the reviewer said. New to the Boston area and not knowing anybody, I thought I would take a chance. This is Patty and Billy Ramsey, a married couple in their 50's who have been doing this work for many years and about 10 workmen who have been with them forever. Patty spoke with me on the phone about what we needed for our Back Bay condo. She asked several questons to understand what we were looking for in the bookcases, cabinets, and hutch we wanted built. She sent several computer generated sketches until we had the design we were looking for and then gave us a preliminary estimate. My husband and I then made the trek on a Saturday to Uxbridge to meet and see their place. This was a clean beautiful showroom. They spent a couple hours talking to us going over every detail. We immediately felt comfortable with these 2 professional, yet very down to earth people. They came the following week to take measurements. All went well and the pieces were to be delivered 8 weeks later. Then I threw us all for a loop when I started making changes a few weeks into the project. Never was there any tone of frustration; in fact, at one point Billy said when I apologized for changing my mind so many times,"You should have what you want." Unbelievable! The pieces arrived and were installed with care and I must say, if you are looking for perfection in workmanship, these are your people. Everything is perfect, not a scatch I have to overlook, not a dent, absolute perfection to all specifications! Working with such nice people is always a pleasure. Phone calls, emails, requests are all handled quickly and I never felt rushed. They aim to please. I would highly recommend these people over the much higher priced, not as personable, city folk I first interviewed.
