I've purchased collections of fat quarters and I Spy squares from eBay and never been disappointed.

I have the link to Christian Lane Quilters, a wide backing fabric company saved for the future. Haven't bought anything yet.

I got some hand-dyed fabrics from Janet Smith at http://www.textileart.com/FOM.php that were reasonably priced and of good quality.

I buy 99% of my fabric online (mobility issues), and I have not been disappointed with any of the online retailers yet. One of my favorites is Z and S Fabrics. Others are Hayloft Fabrics, Connecting Threads, Fabric.com, Thousands of Bolts, Fickle Pickle....etc. I am doing my part to keep the postal system in business. :O)

I usually get Kona Cotton from Hancocks of Paducah, but I've recently heard that Fabric Shack has it also. Every once in awhile I'll get fabric from QIAD and now that their Paducah store is shipping, it's closer and won't be as expensive. The other thing I buy online is Essential Thread from Connecting Threads. I don't do ebay, but I do know someone who sells fabric there so I deal with her direct when I see something.

I don't buy a lot online as I like to see and feel fabric so I usually stock up with TOT, WOW and COC at my fav quilt shop when I go up north.

I have purchased fabric online from Keepsake Quilting, Reproduction Fabric, and Fashion Fabric Club. All my transactions have been good experiences so far.

Z&S online is the Zook's and Sauder's stores near Lancaster PA, as is the Hayloft. We are headed up there next Friday! Woo Hoo!!!

I have bought fabric on line for years and have never been disappointed. Keepsake Quilting, Thousands of Bolts, Jinny Beyer, Connecting Threads, eBay, eQuilter.com (Luana Rubin), and probably others!

Keepsake and eQuilter are probably my favorite sites.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot about spoonflower.com! I haven't purchased anything there yet but I love the idea that you can design your own fabric!

I don't think I've ever purchased fabric online. I guess I don't trust the colors of my monitor!

With that said, my newest Keepsake mag has some fabric I'm loving!!! So I might just have to try it. Today's project is to determine fabric requirements for two projects...

Hancocks, Joann's, Heart of Dixie, Z & S, Dakota Cabin, Stitch-N-Frame and several others.
Haven't had any big problems. A couple of times I've been sent the wrong fabric, but when told, they sent out the correct fabric and had me keep the fabric sent in mistake.
The selection on-line is HUGE compared to any shops/stores around here.
Most of the time, I knew what I was looking for or else just building stash so it didn't matter too much if the color was off. Most times though, the colors were what I was expecting.

I buy on line frequently. Last nite I got 6yd of Kona cotton from Fashion fabric on special for $3.60 a yd after shipping, $2.10 before. I use Connecting Threads, like the quality, price and NS over $50. Hancock of Paducah has a nice selection and great specials. Keepsake has a good selection. Have used Fabric shack with good results. I have used others but don't recall the names. They are always quick with delivery and I am usually pleased. Ofcourse there is nothing like feeling the fabric but sometimes the only way to fined what you are looking for is on line. Jayne

I buy online a lot. I also have shops near me but they charge $11 a yard so I save them for something special that I have to see and touch. When I want 6 yards of black Kona or some plain white, you can get it about anywhere online much cheaper than local. I like Connecting Threads and Fabric Depot in Portland.

I got several half yards of batiks and yarn-dyed plaids from E-Quilter last month. If you ask me, they're selling seconds. And for damned near full price too. At least when you add in the shipping costs it's about what I'd pay at a local quilt store.

Several of the batiks were particularly blotchy or the register of the resist print was off. One was a WOW and there were large areas with no contrast between the white and tone at all.

A couple of the plaids had shaggy loops woven into the fabric. And a couple of them were a good bit heavier than conventional quilting cottons.

I won't bother with them again. The selection may be huge, but what's lost in not being able to handle the fabric and be satisfied with what you're getting is too much a downside for me. Besides, supporting local businesses is an important thing to do to ensure that in difficult financial times your local resources can make it through.

$11/yd sounds very expensive. I'm in Los Angeles where the cost of living is probably higher than many parts of the country and about $9 for Hoffman- and Moda-quality fabrics is typical.

I was just in the Cleveland area last week and went to Abigayles, they have beautiful fabric and personalized service. Also stopped in Pins and Needles and found some moda fabric at 75% off. Woo Hoo.
