I buy minutes for the same reason. I call 1-800-325-0642. It was originally a prepaid card from Costco....don't even have the card anymore. Call and see what they have available. It is very cheap and works fine with the FAX.

10-10-620 is what my Mom used. $1.00 per call, no matter the length. If you get an answering machine, there is no charge. So it obviously starts charging after 15 seconds or something.

Our land line(including fax is bundled under the Internet/TV/Phone contract with Comcast - haven't paid for a long distance call(or fax) in years.

I wouldn't bother keeping a phone only for sending faxes. There are two stores in my town that will send a fax cheap and it's a dollar for the first page, less for more than one.

Most printer now have a scan option - if you have email and a scanner, you dont need a fax
- unless the receiver doesn't have an email account...

There are the email to fax options but I've always found them to be clumsy and unreliable. I usually use a calling card for a LD fax and cell for LD calls. But you have to watch calling cards too. They sometimes have expirations and hidden fees.

I used 10-10 numbers in the past and the last one was 10-10-345 I believe but they changed their policy to charge a minimum and I didn't make many LD calls. You have to be careful with them and compare everything to your use habits. Some charge a monthly fee, some a monthly minimum, some only a per-minute rate but it looks unattractive because it's higher than the supplemented ones. I used 1010phonerates to compare them before. Might want to look at MyRatePlan for info too.

You should check out Hello Fax.. It's new and so good that Google made it one of the features of Google Drive. Getting rave reviews..I think it's great. I use my gmail account/log-in to sign in.
For someone who only sends a few faxes here and there, it's free...for 5 per month (1 page plus a cover sheet)...and Basic is only 4.99 for 50 and you get your own fax number.
This is different than the usual email fax services. There is a Signature feature too.

Cynic, I've used the 10-10 site in the past also. That's where I looked for this latest situation & the site apparently was not updated with the latest charges.
