Living without the 'roid

OK KTrs, I need some honest, and frank advice here. Who among you (if you don't mind speaking about it) is walking around without your thyroid gland? I am seriously thinking about having mine removed, and am frightened to death about it. I've had very bad reactions to synthroid, and am afraid of what might happen if I have to be on it for the rest of my life. I've been told that I "need" to have it removed because I have a boatload of nodules that are pretty large and in the way. Now I'm having a lot of pain and am tired of it. Plus,it's affecting my breathing. Someone told me a long time ago that it would eventually cut off my airway totally.

I had another sono today to be sure nothing else is going on, and should know the results by Monday. Anyway, if anyone is willing to share how they are living without their thyroid, it would be so appreciated. I am really having a tough time even thinking about this, but am sick of faking that I feel OK when I really don't (and sometimes, can't even tell how I feel). I'm sure folks can see through that, and that makes it even worse.

Thank you!!
