is a 72 inch round table too big for my dining room
Comments (15)I have a DR that is almost 13' square so mine is close to your size. My DR table (without leaves) is almost exactly 56" square. It looks great when no one is eating at it, but even without putting in a leaf (it will seat 5 a bit crowded, 4 better), it is hard to get around. I have a small sideboard on one wall, a chest on another wall, and no furniture on the 3rd/4th walls and it's still crowded. Serving is a nightmare as I cannot get behind the chairs to go around the table. If I put in a leaf (my leaves are about 24" wide), I can seat 6 comfortably. One Christmas, I had to put in 2 leaves, and the people at the end, well, one had his chair practically in the entrance into the LR, and the other was up against the french doors that lead to outside - it was awful and this was to seat 9 people! I cannot imagine how you can possibly use your table in this room, or any other table and hope to seat 10 people. It's just not big enough. It takes a BIG DR to hold a table that can seat 10 comfortably. My DD has a DR that is 15' x 16 1/2'. Her table is 52" wide and if she uses small chairs, she can seat two at each end and with two leaves in her table (a triple pedestal table), she can seat 4 down each side, thus 12 in total. One time, she seated 14 - it was very cramped - no b&b plates, single wine glass in the table setting....See MoreHow big of a table can I/should I use?
Comments (4)I think it depends on how you plan to use the conference room. If it's primarily for meetings, I would get a round table. The circumference of a 48" round is about 150", which will allow 6 people to sit comfortably for a meeting as long as the chairs aren't too wide. If you will be using the space primarily for presentations on a screen at one end, then I would choose a narrow rectangle or oval. You could even make an inexpensive custom rectangle out of pre-finished MDF and pre-made legs or newel posts....See MoreReplaced big round drum table with small table.
Comments (14)Thank you all so much for your sweet comments. It is much appreciated. I'll post more pics of the room after the couch is delivered. I'm hoping the couch makes a dramatic change. We've been shopping for a couch since the end of August (actually two couches, we also purchased a leather recliner couch for the family room as well) Finally, after getting a new rug for the family room and a new rug for the living room, picking new couches suddenly became much easier....See MoreHow big is your dining table? Leaves or no?
Comments (45)My table is 46"w x 76"l, with 2 20" leaves for a max length of 116". Comfortably fits 10 chairs and 12 with a bit of squeeze. It may be wider than typical, because many standard size table cloths only have a couple inches of overhang along the sides. (That's something to keep in mind when sizing a table.) I buy banquet sized cloths for when I have both leaves in. I much prefer wood to glass tops. First, I like the ability to expand a table using leaves. In addition, I don't want to see everyone's legs when I eat, so I would end up covering a glass top anyway. (And that's the unfortunate thing about my table: it has a beautiful inlaid wood top that I love, but to protect it when we have dinner guests I use table pads and a table cloth, so no one sees the top anyway. Maybe I need to invest in some fancy placemats.) I'm not a fan of trestle or pedestal tables. We're a tall family and we need leg room under the table. It would bug me if a pedestal or trestle got in the way....See Morerhome410
