I think white wainscoting would look fine with stained doors and trim. It's just like having walls two colors - one on top and one on the bottom. But I don't know if it would be best to paint the baseboard molding under the wainscoting white to match or leave it stained. You might consider posing your question over on the Home Decorating site and see what some of those folks say. Beautiful inspiration picture, BTW.

Thank you Tuesday. The real reason we painted the wood trim in this room was because I have an over the toilet cabinet (the kind on legs) that my Daddy and I put together for his new senior apartment shortly before he passed away. I was always Daddy's little helper so it has a load of meaning to me that we shared that bonding time so soon before he passed. Later I realized had all the trim in this small room been stained it would have been too dark. Especially since the floors are cobalt blue tiles.

Hurray for restoring! I'm not sure what you're asking...are you asking if it's ok to mix painted/stained wood in a single room? Or stained in living room, painted in dining room? If the latter, what is the transition between the living room and dining room? If it's a big opening, I would say treat them the same. If it's a normal size doorway, I think you could paint the dining room, though I think originally they both would have been treated the same.

Linda your wainscoting is beautiful! Thanks for the photos and taking the time to explain how you accomplished that look. Nice!! And your table setting is gorgous. I've never pulled anything like that off. I'll have to put more effort into my holiday tables. Mythreesons thanks for all of the great inspiration photos! I see that "anything goes" as far as wainscoting goes. That's good because I love variety. We'll definitely do something other than beadboard. I would definitley like to do recessed shaker panels, just have to make sure my husband is up to it. Maybe it isn't really any more work than the beadboard. That required a lot of cuts and work also. Actually, as I said before he almost cut his finger off doing our stairway beadboard, so if I were him I'd want to do something different!! I appreciate all of the words of encouragement and compliments. It's exciting that our home is finally coming together. Before it was still HOME, but now it's going to be pretty also : ) But of course now we have to do ALL of the rooms over. You can't prettyize one room and then not do the next, and the next, and the next. Linda the windows in our whole house are by Marvin. They have the simulated divided lights which are really great. On the outside the divided lights are made out of some kind of cladding that is armour tight. On the inside the divided lights are made out of wood and they are permanently affixed to the glass. There are spacer bars in between the double panes of low e glass so that the window really looks like true divided lights even though they are not. You have to wash each pane individually, like with true divided lights, which can be a bit of a pain . . . but it's worth it imo for the look.
