Mixing wainscoting?

I love the look of board and batten wainscoting and have been looking forward to installing it on my stairway and my entry way but my dining room is immediately adjacent to my entry. I tend to favor a more traditional, slightly more formal look of picture frame wainscoting for dining rooms.

Whatever I put on the stairs will have to be replicated in the large hallway that connects as well I am assuming.

Can these be installed next to one another or do I need to just choose one style for the whole house?

Pictures are showing the rooms messy because I am in the middle of lots of rooms around in my house.
