I am curious, what is the benefit of going someplace else rather than preparing your food at home? I have not heard of a place like this.

Don't have any info but sure learned a new "something to do". I've never heard of this type of "store". Thanks for posting - I'll have to check them out. There are several in my area, and one very close to me.

There are several advantages, actually. DD and I have been talking about going to one near us (think it's called Super Suppers, but I could have that off a bit).

for one thing--they have all the ingredients there and prepped. They have all the containers you need. They have recipes--you may get to learn and try something new, BUT you can customize your version (leaving out the mushrooms, for example, if you hate them). And they do the clean up. I think the really big draw, though, is that it's a social experience--people generally go with a friend or relative, there are others there at the session that you get to meet and socialize with.

Sounds like a lot of fun, and you come home with dinners for a week or so, besides having an interesting evening out. Obviously, though, the experience would be more appreciated by a 'foodie'.

I've done this a couple of times (Dinner Done is another name). You buy dinners for 4 but they let you seperate portions into meals for 2. Fills my freezer for those days when I just don't feel like shopping or being in the kitchen. For the 2 of us its reasonably priced and gives us a change from our regular menu.

You learn something new every day! I have never heard of this type of service before. Seriously doubt I would use it.

We have Super Supper in our area. I went there a couple of times while I was working. I didn't have time to do the prep, but they have some already made up they keep in a freezer or refrigerator. I bought a sweet potato casserole and some green beans almondine. They were quite tasty.

If you are used to cooking at home then, no, this doesn't make much sense. But if you have a small apartment or aren't very comfortable cooking or never feel like you have time to do more than heat up a can of soup, then I'm sure it's an attractive option. One of my co-workers is young, single, and works long hours. She goes once a week to one of these (Let's Eat!) and makes 2 complete menus for herself using all of their ingredients and cooking utensils. She has fun with the other people there at the same time. She packages them up in single service sizes and takes them home to her freezer. She usually gets 6-8 meals out of a visit.

The staff does all the shopping and all the food prep (cleaned, cut, etc) AND all the clean-up. They even provide the take-home containers. How can all that be bad??? lol. She loves it and looks forward to her Tuesday evening sessions.

It's not cheap but when she factors in the time she saves she thinks it's well worth it.
