Poolcrazy Wow, great pool! And... that would be exactly what I am talking about! I hope you don't mind, but I have a couple more questions. Have you had any problems w/ cracking or breaking?? Also, does your ledge(top of the spa)cantilever (overhang) in the spa and if so is it uncomfortable when your back is against it?

Here's a pic of our spa and cantilever edge. So far no cracks. There are probably more comfortable edges but we really like this look.

All you need for a double cantilevered coping edge is deck dowels down into the gunite beam, and something for separation of the two such as plastic, shingles, wax paper etc...
Here's a picture of another pool that I built down the street from tamu81's back in 1999 or 2000. I ran a service call over there the week before last. Neither of the cantilevered double coping edges on the raised spa or the back beam with sheer descents had lifted or cracked in 7 plus years. I'm hoping that his spa and raised beam coping doesn't crack or lift over time either.
There are no guarantees even when doing the job correctly. All you can do is hope for the best.
However, if you don't do it properly you can just about bank on cracking, lifting, or even both.

Poolcrazy-How wide is your 'border or band' around your pool? Also, is it the same color as your decking, and is the 'finish' the same as the decking? Thanks!

Sorry for the late response. To answer the first question, yes, the coping overhangs on both sides. It does not seem to bother anyone that has gone in the spa. I actually like it cause I can rest my head on it when relaxing. As with all concrete, there is one tine crack on it...You have to really look for it though. No breaking though. I actually have more cracks on the coping surrounding the pool.

To answer the second question. The coping is about 18" wide. It's a different color than the rest of the decking. The decking has no pink in it at all and the coping has a very light tone in it. It turned out looking really well together though. The pours were from two different contractors, which means the stamp was slightly different. We had them use a slate stamp, but on the decking the impressions were much deeper and bigger than on the coping.

Poolcrazy... finally getting back around here, if you're still around I was curious as to what the brand and the color of your concrete is? Also, what stone did you use in your pool? We are using a ledgestone called "autumn rose" or I've seen it in other places called "california gold" We are trying to find a colored concrete to compliment yet not too dark. I would say it's in the rust, gold and drk grey tones.
