Installing Pergola Posts

I have installed a few arbors and one pergola in the past couple years, working part time. Usually, these are supported by 4x4 or 4x6 treated fir beams, cemented in the ground. I usually put 6' of drain gravel in the hole, place the beam in and fill with cement mix. Now I have a customer that wants 6x6 redwood beams (untreated) for a free standing pergola out in his yard. I have read this week, on the internet, that most people throw cement in the bottom of the hole, then install the post, and cement it. Does this act better to seal the post from moisture in the bottom of the hole? I'm also considering coating the buried portion of the posts with termite repellant. Would this help, even if the posts are encapsulated in cement? The customer doesn't want treated posts and feels if it lasts 15 years, he'll be be happy.
