I think those do "go together." If it were me, I would register for a pretty plain white or cream plate/dish set & then accent with various patterened bowls, etc. That way you aren't limited with how you can set your table - can dress it up or down, etc. You will have the stuff for a long time and should choose stuff you won't easily tire of.

I 2nd Jen9's input. I didn't choose my wedding china. I think I said to my Mom, "oh, those are pretty", and she ran with it. I have a set of china for 12 (or 18) of a china pattern that I'm not really that fond of. Back then,we didn't really register for gifts, and my mom bought it all for me.

I really wish I had chosen all white dishes. I now have her white china which I do use. And my every day plates are all white. I love mixing them with other dishes, whether it's Christmas plates, or purple salad plates, they just work with everything.

And glasses--I've been through lots of colors. My favorite by far is clear glass. Simple but can really carry off the dressed up or down look.

I know it might sound boring. But head over to Pinterest and do a search for white place settings. You will be surprised by how much color you do see and how you can incorporate it through the use of napkins, chargers, table runners, etc.

I'm another white dishes fan, especially if this is going to be the only set of dishes you will have. They will go with everything -- table lines, bowls, salad plates, serving pieces or whatever. Food looks great on solid white plates too. The first dishes I bought were Johnson Brothers all white. DH wasn't crazy about them, so we got something new when we got married, but I missed them and now have Hotel Collection bone white china from Macy's and I love them.

The other comment I have is about the Sango. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I can't recommend that brand. I had a set. We all really liked them at first. They said they were microwave safe, but they got very hot in the microwave -- to the point of being scary, and while the pieces didn't chip as badly as the other pattern, they did chip as well as break far more easily than anything I've ever had. The fact that you may tire of the pattern is not likely to be a problem. KWIM? I wouldn't buy them again. Sorry.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. My daughter was married 2 years ago. She has the same glasses that you are considering. She also has square shaped dinner plates. They are Noritake's Colorwave series. She chose their graphite color but their are lots of fun colors, as well as white and cream. You can buy pieces individually or place settings. Lots of options for mixing and matching too.
My daughter was also registered at a department store and it was there that she received tremendous help from the wedding registry sales associate. The clerk put together various options for dishes, glassware, flatware and placemats. It was helpful to see the items laid out together on a table. See if someone at BB&B can help you this way or go to a major department store. You can be registered at more that one place. My daughter found that the department stores ran some very good sales on her registry items which resulted in better prices than BB&B even using one of their coupons (which not all guests will know about). Just a thought.

That's interesting that the department store was about to mix/match everything right in front of your daughter - that would be very useful I think.

Best wishes! When is the wedding? My daughter was married 4 years ago and it was a lot of fun planning the wedding even though we had some stressful moments keeping everyone happy. You'll feel like you could be a wedding planner when you're all through.

One thing to keep in mind when you buy those boxed sets of dishes is you may not be able to replace an individual piece if it should break. Check to see if there's open stock on replacements. If not, you're going to have to buy another set just to replace one cup. Generally, porcelain is less prone to chipping than earthenware, but it still breaks, especially if you have a husband like mine who's not gentle when he loads the dishwasher.

I agree that Macy's is good for everyday housewares, not just for the sales but for the free shipping. You can pull up all the registries on line these days and it's so much easier ordering and having things shipped.
