I'm a Calligrapher so I address formal envelopes all the time for weddings and such. The way wildchild wrote it is correct.

I wish everyone knew how to address an envelope- we get Christmas cards from Woody's great-niece and it's addressed to "Uncle Jim and Aunt Susan" with no last name. *shakes head* I am surprised it gets delivered, frankly.

I mail things to my grandparents all time - I just address their cards to Papa and Granny. As long as the address is correct that's what matters. The mail carrier doesn't know who lives at your house - it's the address they pay attention to. Been doing it for years and they've never not received anything I've sent them.

I send out a lot of correspondence, and I always address both their names with no Mr or Mrs.

e.g. Bob and Mary Smith
or Bob Smith and Mary Jones all on the same line

My DGD has sent cards to me ever since she was old enough to write. They are addressed to Mamaw, and the address. I've always gotten them.

All the PO needs is an address.

I expect we have all probably gotten mail that comes to our address with a name we never heard of.

The address is all that matters.

I agree that the address is the important thing. I don't like announcing to strangers (their postman, for example) that my friends/family are living together but not married. That's not my place. So I just use first names in that case.

And I LOVE getting cards from my grown niece addressed "Aunt Azzalea and Uncle Tommy"--there's nothing wrong with that in my book, it's cute and loving.

I get letters addressed to Grandma with no last name and the postman always delivers them. However, I agree with Wildchild on the correct way to address your cards. Time really flies! I think of your son as being in Jr. High. Wishing him much success in whatever path he chooses. Bettye/AZ

Our mail carrier *has* questioned mail coming to our address with a name not ours. (We get some mail with the name of a trust that is different from our surname.) That hasn't stopped a sub from giving us our neighbor's mail from time to time, nor the P.O. from holding our mail when a neighbor's is on hold for three weeks. (I guess sorting mail must get to be a MEGO thing.)

Formally speaking, the "and" indicates marriage. My DH and I have different last names, so we would be Ms. Sue36 LastName and Mr. FirstName LastName. When we were unmarried (remember, same names), it would be the same except without the "and".

They can send my bills, addressed to whomever ... to another address is they like.

Except credit card bills ... that'll result in a "late" or "no pay" fee!

And utility bills - they add a couple of percentage points per month!

One time the nursing home sent a letter in my name to my sister's address. She lives in another county another address completely, but I got it! I have no idea how they knew where I was, since my address was not on the envelope.
