I have peg boards and nails in the garage walls for gardening tools and other hardware. There is also a small workshop on the back of the garage which is now garden/lawn storage. One year I went to a garage sale in the neighborhood and bought two small dressers to put in my garage for garden storage. Gloves, small tools, yarn, hose connectors, bags, etc. go in those. The tools I use every day, trowel, and hand weeder, go in the bottom of a pail by the back door. Like gmjan, I have multiples that I don't often use but might. My favorites go in the pail so I don't have to dig through the drawer. I like the idea of a place to hang them so will consider that. We used to move every 6-8 years but have been here 13 years and "stuff" has increased exponentially. Need to do a good sorting and culling.

Most of mine live in the car. I live in a condo, so I'm not making a special trip out to the car (down a flight of stairs, out the building, and walking halfway around the building to the assigned parking spot) just to put the bags back. I fold them so they all fit in one bag, then hang them on the doorknob of the front door and take them out to the car the next time I leave. I have one bag hanging in the broom closet for returnable bottles, which I mostly remember to take with me when I head to the supermarket. I return the bottles and then use the bag for groceries. I have a small nylon bag, that is the size and shape of a plastic grocery bag, that folds up into its own little pouch. That lives in my handbag, ready for any spontaneous, impromptu purchases.

While there are 'uses' for the used soil, I wouldn't reuse it AS a soil, in part because of the increased likelihood of it harboring disease organisms, but primarily because of it's advanced state of decay, more specifically because of the fact that it will be broken down into particles much finer than the the size of particles when it was originally pressed into service. This fine particle size reduces aeration and increases water retention in what odds say was already problematic or borderline so in those areas. If you can find pine bark in an appropriate size, you can make a soil, using your old soil as a smaller fraction of what you're making ..... and gain a substantial savings for your effort. You can over-winter your eastern white cedars ('cedars' being a misnomer) in their pots, but in order to maintain top vitality it will almost certainly be necessary to repot in the spring - preferably into a medium that allows you to water appropriately. I use the IKEA perforated bag holders. If they are overflowing, I take a bunch to the local thrift stores or to the bag recycling bin at Walmart. I find them to be perfect for lining wastebaskets, cleaning litterboxes and other things that I would buy trash bags for. The city requires all trash to be bagged before it is put in the bin for pickup.
