The PS8 has eigth high voltage relays. You hook the 120V to one of these relays to turn it on/off. The other relays high voltage relays used for things like pool pump, pool lights, etc. The low voltage relays are for the 24V vavle actuators (for example the valve that switches from pool main drain to pool skimmer, or pool return to spa overflow, etc).

Ok... Got it! My last question is do I cut the 3-prong plug off the transformer and hardwire it into on the 120V OR Do I wire a new plug/outlet from the 120V and then plug the transformer. No worries, I'm just trying to educate myself and to be safe I have an electrician coming out tomorrow.

I'm still puzzled. Why can you wire "light source & color wheel" directly however the low vaultage lighting requires a seperate transformer?

Lights: A ground fault circuit breaker must be used to supply power for high voltage pool/spa lighting.
Low voltage lights will require an external transformer. For lighting systems that have both a light source
and color wheel, connect the light source to the "Lights" relay and then connect the color wheel to one of
the AUX outputs.

The Aqua Logic can control up to four (PS-4/8) or eight (PS-16) 24V automatic valve actuators. Two of
the valve outputs are dedicated to the pool/spa suction (Valve2) and return (Valve1) valves. Valve3 and
Valve4 (Valves3, 4, 7-10 for PS-16) are for general purpose use (solar, water feature, in-floor cleaner,
etc.).

You are correct. Cut the 3-prong connector off and make your connection to the high voltage relay. The manual is also correct that you need a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupt) breaker feeding the transformer. You should have one installed already if you have pool lights as these need to be on one too. Depending on the total ciruit laod you may be able to share the GFI breaker. If not, it is easy to install in place of a standard circuit breaker. The power flow is like this: the line (house) power comes into your PS8 and feeds a bus into which a set of circuit breakers are connected. These circuit breakers then feed power up to the high voltage relays which the PS8 turns on/off through the control panel. For example one breaker would feed the pool pump relay, one would feed the pool light relay, etc. The installer either uses standard breakers or GFCI breaker depending one what equipment is feed. Pool pumps don't need a GFCI breaker but pool lights do.

The light source/color wheel doesn't needa transformer because it is already 120V. The landscape lighting needs a transformer because the light fixtures are 12V so you are lowering (tranforming)the 120V to 12V. The number of fixtures you want determines the size of the transformer. If you have 15 lights (with 10 watt bulbs) you would need a 150W transfromer (always add 10% for voltage drop and add some extra capacity for future growth). I hope this expalination helps. I can provide a photo of my panel if you think it would help you understand but my panel is a pentair IntelliTouch (however they are all somewhat simialr regarding function).

Great explanation! I completely understood what you were telling me. As I mentioned I had a certified electrician (friend) come by and wire it. We did cut the plug and hard wired it to Aux4 sharing the existing GFI. So far everything looks good however IÂll know better tonight when I test everything. My only concern would be that the spa and three Hayward lights already share that GFI. The electrician said it should not be a problem. IÂll keep you posted. At first when I turned the low voltage lights on the entire string did not light up. In fact as you went down the line they became dimmer. After about 15 min. I relized I didnt terminate the ends. Once I terminated the ends everything was fine. So far everything is working perfectly. Again, thank you very much for your help.
