Traditionally a rope of fresh plumber's putty is used between the flange lip and porcelain finish. No sealants are needed anywhere else. On fireclay sinks, never over-tighten! Don't seal any of the metal/metal threads, it will just make it all the more difficult to ever disassemble. Casey

Does anyone have a Waste King GD (I have a 3-bolt batch feed) with a Rohl Shaw sink? I bought the extended flange by Rohl, as recommended, and a GD that is listed as compatible on the Rohl spec sheet for the extended flange. But according to my plumber it doesn't fit!!! And, Waste King said they think I need to buy an InSinkErator flange assemble (minus the actual flange) and fit that on the Waste King? This sounds nuts! Rohl INSISTS that it should work. What do I do?

I'm pretty sure the thickness of the sink itself that sets off the need for the flange. I do have plywood under the sink though, as I think most fireclay sinks do. Even my small one weighs more than 120 pounds. My plumber had a LOT of trouble installing my garbage disposer. (I have a very small old house though.) I had a whole afternoon of phone calls about it. I try never to micromanage professionals, particularly up front. You might point out that it is a porcelain sink, so it is possible to crack it (on the grounds that without inspecting it, someone might think it was unbreakable cast iron). After that, he'll just go to work. Only if he becomes confused will he need/listen to any advice you have to give on installation. After my plumber's way didn't work, I just told him he could get the flange he needed at Home Depot, looked up the serial number and let him get what he needed himself. I think you can return parts if they haven't been used. Good luck!

Breezygirl ... The Blanco sinks are lovely and a great option, but I just haven't seen one that has the look that I want. Beaglesdoitbetter ... What a fabulous sink ... with the small exception of the bottom corners which, given my limited patience with housecleaning details, would be a challenge for me. After a quick internet search, I found someone local who makes concrete sinks and counters. I will connect with him this week. Circuspeanut ... Wrinkled linen is the only kind of linen I would have in my house which is probably why I am fixated on a sink with a living finish. Your suggestion to check out lead content, construction method, country of origin, etc., is an excellent one. Ordinarily I would ask those questions, but I let my guard down because I found the sink at VanDykes. Thus far everything I have purchased from VanDykes (and I have purchased a ton) has been of excellent quality. I assumed, foolishly, that if the sink passes muster with VanDykes, it would pass muster with me. My assumptions have turned on me in the past, so I will be certain to get the facts before I make a decision.
