Has anyone undermounted a sink into laminate?

Just wondering if anyone here has an undermounted sink into laminate?

If so, can you tell me about it? Where did you go? How does it look? Do you like it? Cost? Would you recommend?

Pics would be great.

I have not undermounted a sink in laminate. When we were redoing our kitchen I was told that that wasn't possible. However, I've since learned that it is possible with the right seal. It looks like a small black round rubber seal between the sinks and the laminate. The look is nice and quite discreet. Sorry I don't have experience and can't tell you how well it performs.

We were at a Home Show a couple weeks ago and a couple cabinet displays had it done that way . . . I commented on it because it was new to me. You might call around to various cabinet sources in your area to see if they have one in a display setup. The ones at the HS looked fine.

I am in the same boat, or similar boat anyways. Everyone says don't over spend for your area. I have WAAY over done that already just for the bones and structure. But also granite, while it is gorgeous, just isn't that important to me and I don't have high end finishes anywhere else. Although what I do have is what I wanted, so if I wanted granite, I would find the budget for it. But since it isn't that big a deal to me and since I am also nearing the end of my $, the countertop is one place that I can save some money and upgrade later if I want to. As far as looking funny for the next owners, will cross that bridge when we get to it. I plan to be here for the long haul unless something unforeseen happens. So for now, I am all about function and saving a few $ in the process if possible. So we have gone hi-res laminte all the way around, but my sink is in the corner, and might not have been the best choice for a corner, but oh well, I love it anyways. So I am going to have to do something different in that corner with the countertops. My other countertops should be here in a week or so. I think I will live with those for a little while and go from there. We have grown use to no countertops around the sink. We don't have to open the drawer to get out the silverware. :-) (the microwave is only there to try to hold the dishwasher down while the racks are pulled out. I only use the dishwasher as a dish drain)

I have a Karran sink with laminate counters at my weekend lake place - picture below. I've had it for a little over a year - I like it. It's in a space constrained corner so I like that I don't have that big overhang that I used to have with the cast iron sink. It seems like I have a couple more inches of counterspace on either side of the sink now. Aside from that advantage, the ease of wiping things into the sink is great and the lack of a place for gunk to build up is nice. Potential disadvantages - I'm really careful about the edge of the sink that meets the counter. You know how laminate edges like this seem to chip? I wonder if this edge would be prone to that or if it's stronger since it's attached/supported somehow by the sink? The sink does stain easily - if you want a "stainless" sink, this would not be for you. It cleans up nicely with something like softscrub but you need to clean regularly. There's another product called counterseal that also allows for undermount with laminate. I've seen on display - it looked pretty good too but had more of a "ledge" that I didn't care for - where crud would accumulate.

It works in laminate. I know because I have a Domsjo sink with a Wilsonart HD laminate countertop in my rental kitchen. Unfortunately, my main PC where my reno photos are housed has crashed with a virus and I can't send you photos until I get someone over here to fix it. But, I agree with the suggestion that, if you need photos, try over at Ikeafans website. At the very least, take it from me to your GC: The Domsjo sink is a self-rimming sink and it definitely works just fine with laminate countertops!

I opted for a Karran sink but I saw a counterseal sink/counter on display - it looked pretty good but how it holds up longer term I don't know. I've had the Karran sink for a little over a year at my weekend lake place. No problems so far. Things to consider in my opinion. I'm careful about the edge where the laminate meets the sink - it seems like this might chip easily. The Karran sink does stain easily though it does clean up easily too with softscrub. It's the kind of sink you need to clean frequently though. Here's a picture of mine.

I've undermounted three oval lavatories in laminate countertops. Used exterior grade plywood for the substrate and painted the plywood underside with several coats of an alkyld base swimming pool paint. (Alternatively, you could laminate the underside also.) Glued a narrow laminate strip to the inside edge of the cutout and caulked between the lavatory & bottom of countertop. They've been in service several years and have had no problems. Of course, a bathroom sink doesn't get near the use that a kitchen sink does.

I would NOT attempt this using particle board.

Just saw a showroom display of 'Counterseal' product. Looks quite nice and seems to be a quality product. Comes in 5 color variations of white, beige and black. Did not price it out and you're locked into using a 'Counterseal' sink. Link follows.
