Judy, you did stockinette stitch. It always curls. Even when you crochet around it. Don't ask me how I know. LOL

I would steam it. Just around the edges. It will relax the yarn some, and keep it from curling for a while. :)

I started it in January, during the lull after Christmas and I finished last Thursday.

It is stockinette stitch. At the beginning I did the ribbing for 6 rows. Since it still rolled while I finished the rest, when I got to the end I put one row of the opposite stitch in before the rib. That didn't help either. For the side of it I just did the knit stitch in every row for 6 stitches on both sides. That stays real nice. I have a couple mistakes in those edges.

This was real fun to knit because I used 20 inch flexible needles. The working ends are bamboo. I sure like those!
The yarn is Lion Baby Soft. It is so nice and soft and snuggly. I'm not sure if I'm going to start a new project or wait until after the summer.

Alisand, I certainly didn't count each stitch!
There are 300 stitches across and each section has a certain number of rows. Is only took a little multiplying. lol A feat I would have skipped!

That's so beautiful! I love the look of stockinette stitch, but I get so tired of doing it (I don't like the purl rows - LOL!). I am so in awe of you for doing 290 rows of 300 stitches each!! (Are you sure it's not MORE THAN 290 rows!?!?)

WOW! That's lovely. I love the green. You are the Knitting Queen! I am impressed with your industriousness (any such word??). I have been working on a scarf - 20 stitches on the needle, big fuzzy wool, largeish needles, and I have been working on it at my craft group for two hours every second Thursday since Christmas. It is supposed to be 6 feet long and I have 2 feet done. I have been told by the other crafters in the group that it has to be finished before next winter sets in. Ha! Ha! Ha!

You know, Barbara, you could knit some on it at other times too. :)

Beautiful!!! That is a great job done...I am not sure I could have finished it...luckily you did it while it was still cool so it could warm your lap while you were working on it!

That's gorgeous Judy and it would look great on my guest bed! I love those stripes, it add a certain bit of "Hudson Bay Blanket" to your blanket.

As to the curling edges, could you sew a weighted tape to the underside? Would that help? Steaming and blocking would work, but only until you washed it. Will you be washing this occasionally? IS it washable? It's so big, what a huge accomplishment, you should be enormously proud of yourself, I just love this.

Barbara, it sounds like you "have a life!" Even so, I can't help but think that maybe the other four feet should have been done in between those Thursdays. LOL Just think, by the time you get the scarf done, you'll have a new coat and need to find someone who can use a nice homemade scarf for a gift! ;o)
My very first afghan took me 7 years!

I keep it next to "MY chair" and every time I sit down, I pick it up. I have a self-rule, I need to sit for about 2 hours early in the afternoon, to get my feet up for a while. So I turn on the TV and grab my knitting.

Lindsey, The "purl" stitch is my favorite and that is the one I can do w/o looking (and seldom make a mistake.) When I try to do the knit w/o looking, I end up needing to pick some stitches off. That I hate!

Sandy, LOL as it got bigger the "hot-flashes" increased! I had to hang it over the side of the chair instead.

Sorry girls - You can't have it cause it matches my bedroom! It is just big enough to throw another layer on top, on the really cold nights, or like now when the heat is almost turned off. I'm really taking a likeing to that baby yarn and the thinner feel. It's plenty warm.

To stop the curling on the next one, do a border of garter stitch. Say maybe 10-20 stitches of knit only, each row, on each edge. Do the same on each end. That way it won't curl on any edge.

If I work on my scarf at other times, then I would have nothing to take to craft group - LOL! The other members are doing lovely expert-level embroidery, advanced knitting, etc. so this is my work-in-progress for craft group. Really, I go for the social aspect and the knitting is just an excuse!

Tami, The garter stitch (I didn't know what it was called) is what I used on the sides. I really wanted to have the ribbing look. Maybe if I had done that in a wider section. I had 6 rows and maybe 12 would have made a difference, but then I would need to make the side edges wider too.

I use to always make scarves for the kids, and used the garter stitch. They never rolled, and the ridges in the pattern helped to keep the scarf from untieing while they played outside.

Here is a Lap Throw that I made last Fall. I did the stockinette stitch in the white. Then, with a circular needle, I picked up stitches all around the edges and added the ribbing. Actually I continued the stockinette for about 1 1/2 inches, then did the rib. This one does NOT curl.

SamKaren, I'm fairly sure I used 5 skeins of white and 3 of the green. It measures (before stretching it) about 68 inches square. I did have to make a couple trips back to the store, but I used a couple coupons that way.

You did a beautiful job. Makes me want to knit something. I have been crocheting. Don't think I will take on a project as big as yours.
