Can't you get a 36" range, with a larger oven? Just remember to adjust the hood/vent, too :)

If we were using gas heat, that would make perfect sense. However, there isn't a 36" induction range available, and I'm not sure if that there's even an electric one.

Does anyone use a 30" range to cook for a large family? We eat a lot of fruit & veg (uncooked) so I thought we'd be fine. However, some other posts have made me doubt myself.

Lovely design - not sure if I can see where to put the wall ovens either.
Maybe purchase an extra induction burner to use when you need just one more cooking area.

There are 36" electric ranges...I know because I've been looking for one, too. Have you asked this on the appliance forum? I'm trying to find electric...with a grill option :)

I guess my options are either a 36" electric freestanding range or my original choice of a 30" slide-in induction range.

a2gemini ~ I was planning to use your idea of an extra induction burner as my backup plan.

I have seen kitchens where people have a cooktop ( 36" induction in your case ) and then they'll have an oven under that.

I'm still looking at 36" to 48" but I'd like to stay a little on the smaller end. I did find a 40" electric range with grill at Lowe's (can you believe it?) but I'm not sure that's exactly what I'm looking for...but there are some beautiful UK ranges, online. I'm afraid to look at the price, let alone the shipping! LOL

ACW ~ Thanks! That would work in my kitchen. It would, however, add at least $2K to the cost of my appliances. Is it worth it for an extra 6" in the oven and 1 more burner? I really don't know...

I have to first say that I don't understand why anyone would want an induction range over gas....but that's your issue :p. but in my kitchen, which is about the same size as yours (mine is 15x13 roughly, with two full walls of windows and two doors) we have a 55 1/2" range and it fits the space marvelously with no need for any additional ovens.

I'm on my iPad which makes pics tough but you can look at the "not white kitchens" thread and see pics there. Our layouts have many similarities and yet we easily fit it in. We cook for 3 normally and up to 30/40 for parties so we wanted a large range. IMO opinionated opinion I find that wall ovens are a waste of space since you usually lose much of the space under a cook top to electronics, thereby doubling the space needs for half the value.....but what do I know :p.

Induction.....really? We stir fry and grill fresh ingredients and would only be happy with gas. You admittedly don't bake often so why on earth do you want so much oven space?????

And now...since no one brought it up....I must say that when I read the line...we have four and are thinking of six and wonder if we are making a mistake (paraphrase) this mom of one wanted to scream....YES FOR GADS SAKE STOP AT FOUR. Lol. But ummm that's just me :p. (all kidding aside...best wishes in all of your endeavors).

Igloo ~ I did see your kitchen in the other threads, it's beautiful! (and wonderfully unique) I'm going to go back and look to see our layout similarities.

We've decided not to run a gas line to our new house at all therefore no gas range. As for wall ovens, well, I guess I'm just double checking my decisions. It's hard to imagine my kitchen needs 5-10 years from now with the young family I have now.

LOL, no, we're a family of 4 so only 2 kids so far! (and we need IVF so 2 more is not a given, just a hope).

Oh darling big hugs and I wish you even more success with IVF. I went through three years of it and know its no picnic!

I'll pull some old design drawings tomorrow or the next day and post them for you. I really was suprised how similar our spaces look in drawings.

No gas line? (thump as I faint over dead). I'm about ready to buy a natural gas company so that we can have it n our new kitchen, (dh says the check want clear lol) but even propane is better than electric. We have had it all n the last few years and I'd rate gas highest, propane second and anything electric for the birds. That said....I know people love the things. Different styles of cooking I guess.

Now if you are wanting any obnoxious little red head children, do let me know...we have a dozen on ice just incase :p

haha, no gas line. We do, however, tend to go a little against the grain. My DH is getting an outdoor gasification wood boiler and a huge water storage tank so it's not all electric energy for us. Your range is amazing though!

If you can go 36" over 30" I think it always wins hands down. The extra space on a 36" cooktop, while not seeming like it's a lot, ends up giving you a lot more work space between pans.
ACE has given you some great appliance options, do you think they'll work for you? I'd also add a Breville Smart Oven to the list. I absolutely love mine. It's a toaster but also an electric convection oven and fits well on the countertop. I use it to roast vegetables, make pizza, and do a lot of side dishes in it. I don't bake a lot but have seen reviews where people say it does better than their large oven, probably because the small size results in a more even heat. Anyhow, just one more recommendation for the list!

Could you explain why you think that gas is best?

Currently, I have a gas cooktop. I also have a portable induction unit I got a few years ago to use (while waiting for the remodel) during the summer b/c it is so "freaking" hot here and I don't feel like generating additional heat.

I liked all right and was planning on doing a gas/induction combo (having gas is a "must" due to frequent power outages) but I was really diappointed in the induction cooktops I tried (Wolf and something else, cannot remember), though I have not yet tried Gaggenau.

With the new Termador Freedom coming to market and limited space due to the kitchen layout, I have some hard decisions to make. LOL.

I am very used to gas cooking and I too *hate* all electric cooktops - except induction. I have read all about "gas vs. induction" on the Internet but I'd like to know why YOU personally love gas so much more.

Be careful about putting a built in oven below an induction cooktop. I thought I read there could be troubles with the induction working properly (or worse breaking).

We're putting the frig next to the wall oven. With the insulation properties most companies do not void the warranty.

Appliance forum is your friend for this question IMO.

Before you change things to run with the idea of an oven under a separate induction cooktop, carefully check the appliance specs. Not all cooktops can have an oven underneath. You'll have to find just the right combo of oven/cooktop to make it work. Ask over in the Appliance forum. It's not as easy as it sounds. :)

Thanks to everyone who responded. I think that the E'lux slide-in is a safe back-up plan but I'm going to see if I can make the 36" induction cook-top work.

I wonder, could an oven go beneath the counter to the left of my fridge? I have 36" of cabinetry there. Maybe that's a bad location though...I guess this also becomes a layout issue.

Aloha and I posted at the same time! That's happened to me three times just this morning.

Forgot to mention my membership in the IVF club, only our cycle wasn't successful and no freezies. Ended up with our precious baby girl on our own with Chinese medicine, herbs, acupuncture, diet (organic with no sugar, dairy, wheat, gluten), yoga, tai chi, breathing and meditation. I am going through very similar decisions. My kitchen design has strayed from the 30" freestanding range all gas to a 36" induction cooktop with 30" wall oven located underneath it. Both Miele. Just wanted to add that Miele redesigned their wall oven so that it could be configured this way. This configuration is very common in the UK where I originate from. I have been nervous about applying it here in the US as I haven't seen it very often. I'm also planning a speed oven located under a counter to make up for loosing my current set up that has a double wall oven that I seldom need.

Laurajane- The ranges I saw online, were from Rangemaster, in the UK. Here are a few I really like...but they're huge! Nice though :)

I've also read some old GW posts and it seems like the main drawback to placing an oven under a cooktop is that the oven sits quite low (much lower than a range). I really like the idea of having a 36" induction cooktop so I started another thread to see where my oven would go. I'm pretty sure that my oven would need to be under the counter, but if it's not under the cook-top, it could sit a bit higher.

I was doing some research. I found that if the oven and refrigerator are properly insulated,it doesn't matter if they're next to each other.
