Barron, I'm growing new plants of Turk's Cap because they are a good long blooming native for shade. They don't care if its deep shade & will also grow in full sun. Check out the Native American Seed, they have a good list of shade loving native plants which I got ideas from. I bought a Turk's Cap plant last spring & made 4 new plants from it, they root very easily. I saved a lot of seed & planted these too because I am working on a long property line area that is sunny in spring, winter but shady in summer, anywhere from no sun to various #hours. Almost Eden carries plants online & Bustani's has them at their nursery in Stillwater OK. Its root hardy in zone 6. Here is what has also worked well for me so far in a similar situation to the one you describe. Lanceleaf coreopsis. Early season sun but by the time they finish blooming, its shady, forms a thick ground cover. Artemisia ludoviciana. It is surprisingly good in only 3 to 4 hours of sun. I had so much plant material, I went ahead tried it against common sense. It makes a good contrast filler. I ended up filling a large area with this. Salvia greggi (the common wild type). does very well with only 4 hours morning sun & I have about 3 plants that get even less that still do surprisingly well. The plants bloom and have a good form & since they are so easy to root I experiment with them cuz their free. Wood and water don't mix. Changes in humidity or tracking in a bit of water on top of the floor shouldn't be an issue but if you are going to have seepage at doors or windows or rain blowing in through openings, find something other than wood. An oceanfront condo is no different than a regular house that might be a block or a mile from the beach in regards to wood flooring and the effects of moisture.

I suggest Comtesse Emmeline de Guigne: I saw it growing at Morcom Park in Oakland, California and it was a gorgeous pink Tea with starry blossoms with a satiny sheen. Sometimes it shows salmon in the inner petals along with the pink. I admired it everytime I went there that summer. The next spring I was surprised to see it had been moved, although its replacement was a very pretty pure peach colored Tea rose, I should have looked closer at the foliage et cet. I read Gregs description of Comtesse Emmemline de Guigne in the Vintage Gardens Book of Roses and he described how it changes from pink to peach depending on conditions, so it had been there all the time masquerading under a different color. At Morcom Parks Amphitheatre of Roses they keep it at c. 4 feet tall by slightly wider, and it seems perfectly happy. Rogue Valley sells it. For years I was underwhelmed by my Duchess de Brabant, I thought it was a bit plain, until my neighbor said look how many roses there are on that plant! It gave me a new appreciation for it. . Mrs. Dudley Cross is sublime, and those smooth stems are a relief to me as I walk down my sidewalk as I tend to get caught on nearly every rosebush I pass by. By the way Souvenir de la Malmaison is fully half a Tea rose by parentage, which is why it re-blooms so rapidly and is florifeorus. Mlle. Cecille Brunner is classed as a Polyantha, yet is fully half a Tea by breeding. Her flowers are pink, petite and perfectly Tea shaped, and the scent is divine. Pretty foliage too. Hello friends After a long time i have again reverted back to this forum. I learnt my container vegetable gardening on this forum and now that i have moved to my new place in Pakistan i wish to now further that hobby with a target of being able to make a living out of it in the next 5 years. As far as this post is concerned, i m looking for some suggestions on maximum production on the limited space that i have. For sake of clarification, i have around 1500 sq. Ft of rooftop south facing space and around 500 sq. Ft of a west facing passage on one side of the house. Sun light would be limited to two hours on that side, however with vertical garden the light time could be significantly extended. In addition i have around 800 ft of south facing in ground gardening space. I would be highly grateful if you could share your suggestions and preferably links to web posts as well as earlier forum posts to help me plan my way forward. Thanks n regards
