Most of the checkboxes there are for things that actually don't take up much room, and don't make much difference either way. These take up room and are worth deleting : Temporary Internet files Temp files (especially) Recycle bin (especially) The rest you can think of as historical traces of things you've done. If you're a privacy nut you might want to keep them checked for deletion. Otherwise, it really doesn't make much difference. For example : Run (in Start menu) Clipboard "Run" would be things you've typed into the Run box. If you deleted them, then the next time you use the Run box they won't predicatively autofill. If you're not a power user that won't make any difference to you. Clipboard - kind of the same thing. I have a clipboard add-on that saves the last 20 things I copied & pasted. Deleting that list would clear those 20 things, and i wouldn't be able to paste them again. Memory dumps & Chkdsk file fragments are, for the former, leftovers from crashes that can help diagnose those crashes, and for the latter, just file fragments of corrupted files also probably from some kind of crash. You pretty much never need them. Basically the only things you really should think of clearing out are the Temporary Internet files (the Internet Explorer cache), Recycle bin,, and temp files, all of which take up space. Those are the only things i check for deletion. You can leave Windows Error Reporting and Event files - they might help to diagnose a problem if it should come up. I will send but the question is will you use it? Do a general cleanup of your computer and if that doesn't help, than I would use the AOL Quick Restore. To clean out unwanted files. Start - Control Panel - Internet Options open - Delete cookies, Delete files (select all off-line content) - Click OK to Exit. Then go to Start - Run - Enter %temp% - Click OK - Click Edit - Click Select All - Delete. Start - Run - Enter - C:\windows\temp - OK - and select everything except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete them. If you don't see Temporary Internet files, cookies and History listed - select all and delete. Then Restart your computer. 1. Error Checking- This takes about 35 minutes. Start - my computer - right click local disk (C) - properties - Tools Tab - Error checking section - Check now - check mark both boxes - Start - This requires a restart to begin. 2. Start - Run - type - sfc /scannow - OK Don't forget the space between c and / You will need the Recovery CD that came with your PC if any thing is found wrong. Don't insert unless asked for. Glad the problem was caused by Bad modem and it was fixed. We had similar problem about two months ago. Downloading slowness only happened between around 9:00am to 7:00pm, sometimes to the point we received nothing. Of course at first intenet provider denied they caused it. After we checked moden (it was a fairly new one), wireless SW, our computers, connectors from moden to cable, from cable to wall plugs...etc. it seems everything was good. I said it must caused by weather because we had record heat this summer. The look I got clearly indicated I was crazy. DH said we just needed to buy a brand new modern, or not to use internet during day time ( what a brilliant solution!!) I sometimes work from home, I HAVE TO use internet during day time. I called the internet provider for a house call. May be I sounded too crazy for them to deny an appointment. The service person checked everything as we did, everything was fine. Then he went up to attic. Came down said the connector between provider's cable to our house was too old and too small gaudge, it restricted signal flow when temperature went up. He replaced the connector with one that allows must higher amount of signal flow. The problem was solved. I was too happy to write down the name of the hardware he replaced with.

We live in Northern Virginia (7b) and leave our pond (900 g) going all year long. The pond covers the width of the backyard of a townhome overlooking a golf course. We use a pump to move the water from the pond to the top water fall where it spills into a bifurcated stream that then meets in a small ponding area and drops from another waterfall into the large pond. So, for maintenance in the spring and fall we check to make sure vegetation hasn't started growing into the pond. From time to time, tree roots will try to invade by growing along side the liner and then into the stream. We clean the settled leaves from the bottom of the pond with a skimmer, the excess mud out of the stream and then with a scrub brush clean the filter on the end of the pump. I also thin out the irises that grow in the ponding area as they can completely take over. This takes about a half day in spring and again in the fall. Once or twice a month I check the vegetation and check for algae growth. Weekly I check the water levels and the PH once or twice in the summer. This weekend it was in the 60s so I did all of this in a Sunday afternoon. In winter, the water movement keeps the pond from completely freezing over. It may look frozen on top but the water continues to move underneath. Often an ice layer forms over the pond but there's a cushion of air between the pond water and ice layer so it stays insulated, it doesn't get cold enough for the pond to freeze completely over. Over the years we've used a pond heater, an air exchanger and bubblers which helps keep the pond from freezing over and also helps to aerate the pond. I find that the bubblers proved to be one of our best assets and we now keep them going all year long. Hard to believe they have lasted so many years in all kinds of weather. We also put a mesh screen across the pond in the fall to capture the leaves; it also helps to keep critters out during especially cold winters. Raccoons are crafty, they devastated our pond one year when we weren't careful about how we laid down the screen. We didn't want it to get all caught up with the ice that formed along the waterfall. It's a natural part of the landscape and has worked out so well for us. FYI, keep koi, fantail goldfish, shubunkins, tadpoles/frogs, snails and other aquatic plants so that there is a natural balance. The pond has attracted a significant amount of wildlife from visiting turtles, birds, skinks, and the occasional snake and/or raptor (the small birds seem to attract the winter raptors). Since water flows regularly we've never had problems with mosquitoes though we did also purchase mosquito fish just in case.
