New to me frig AND a stove

Remember I asked about transporting a frig on its side?

We went and picked it up Monday nite, and it was on its side for about 1/2 hour.

I plugged it in tonite and it's working like a charm!

It's the same height as the frig that is here in the apartment, but it's wider and deeper, so it has a lot more interior space.

It also has 2 crispers which I like, vs one large drawer.

While we were there, the fellow asked DH if we knew anyone who wanted a stove. DH mentioned it to me on the way home, and yes, I think I need his stove as well!

The stove here works great, but I'm so used to the digital clock, and this one has the analogue with the pin that you turn to set the time, and it buzzes. It has the extra button that you turn to bake, or broil.

The oven and burners work great, but gee, the price is right on these appliances.......FREE, and they are just like new, not a mark on them. The new stove has the digital clock.

I've got use of my aunt's van, so we'll be going to get the stove tomorrow nite now.

The super will be able to use the frig and stove that's here.

Sorry I've been out of touch. Traveling and doing this reno from 3000 miles away is impossible! My guest house is almost finished so I'll have a place to stay. hurray! Thanks everyone for your pics and thoughts. I've just spent two days in appliance stores comparing and interrogating sales people. For 42" there isn't much out there. If I want perfectly flush built in with custom panels. The only one any sales person knew of was the Thermador columns 18" freezer with 24 " frig...but the frig has only 13.1 c.f. and narrow....not much room for a turkey! Clinresga, you are right! Since I can't go to a 48" inch frig....presently the choices for frameless, fully integrated, built in flush with custom panels are 36" bottom refrigerators: Miele, Thermador, Gaggenau or Bosch (sales people tell me they are discontinuing the Bosch) and I also saw the Gaggenau 36" French Door which looked fantastic also and perfectly flush, but not much door space on the french doors. Seems these companies try to keep their cubic feet secret, even the sales people had a hard time finding this info...it's looking like the frig portions are 15 for the Thermador and can't find numbers on any of the others. If anyone has true numbers on this, please share. 36" subzero bottom freezers, though they advertise flush...all the sales people pointed out that they aren't truly flush because there needs to be an inch on either side due to their hinges. loves2cook I'm liking the Miele and the temp controls!! Also, the Gaggenau looks pretty glitzy inside with the metal, Hollywood lights and the electric shelf elevator...definitely a wow factor.

We have a Jennair smooth-top in black. Almost impossible to keep clean; it is hard to tell where the "burners" are unless they are on, so you have to turn on the burner, wait for it to heat and then place your pot or pan; and there are few gradations of heat. In addition to all that, the maker recommends stainless steel, flat-bottomed pans. Fine if you already have them, but investing in a completely new set of pots and pans just to accomodate a cooktop? A smooth-top range may be easier to keep clean, not require special implements and the burners may be marked. Look into this before purchasing!

I think it comes down to what you want to look at. How large is your kitchen? Will it allow a surround for a standard frig? I own a 36" counterdepth that has a surround and I would highly recommend one like Casey owns. Only drawback is if someone has back problems and can't bend over easily when accessing the freezer! ;) I have a side by side and there's never enough room. Things get stacked behind each other and it can be difficult to get to containers. I ended up buying another cheaper frig that I keep out in the garage to hold leftovers, extra fruit/veges, and frozen goods. If the rest of your home is to the 'scale' of your new kitchen, I'd say yes enclose the frig and go with SS if budget allows. If you end up having it built as a counterdepth, you (or buyers) can still use either a standard or counterdepth frig in it. I haven't found the SS difficult to keep clean. I usually wipe the surface weekly, but if you're a perfectionist (or have young children) you may have to do it more often. DIL just purchased new KitchenAid SS and they claim to have a finish that prevents fingerprints. I guess it helps since I've noticed that hers doesn't show prints as easily as mine!

I've had food poisoning once in my life. It was so awful I now throw out anything that's been sitting. Once hubby bought a big package of in-the-shell shrimp, left it in the car overnight, the next day it smelled SO BAD.

I know, it's only a frig, but I have to show it to you. Imagine getting this for free. It's wonderful.

Wait a minute.... you hauled it on its side??? And the world didn't end? I'm shocked! :D

It's also a good idea it let it run for a day or so before you load it up to let it stabilize too, if you have the chance. Otherwise, duz what ya gotta duz!

It doesn't look to be very old. You should get a lot of service out of it. Nice catch. And free is that much better.

Congratulations! That's really great.

It made my day when we were able to give our old washer and dryer to a couple who'd just had a baby. The set didn't work perfectly, and I'd said that in the ad, but they were thrilled.

You mean, you got a CLEAN fridge??? WOW, everything I ever saw for free on freecycle when I lived in Tulsa was very dirty.

Nice looking fridge. You should see the old garage fridge I have in storage.... It will have to do when I move, till I have money for new to me fridge... or till I get lucky like you. :)

Good for you..

I remember when we moved here 40 plus years ago. When we moved in there was a stove in the garage. What a mess it was.. The realtor that sold us the house called a few days after we moved in to ask what we were going to do with the stove. A family had moved to town that had nothing. She wondered if they could have the stove. We said yes and the family was thrilled. I saw her in town after that and she always told me how grateful she was to have it. So thankful someone could use it.. There also was a dresser and a few other things that she took as well.

I was extremely lucky. I just wiped the frig out with a damp sponge. It had a couple of spots on the glass lid of the crisper drawers.

There are a couple of largish burnt stains on the floor of the oven, but the sides, outside of the stove, control knobs are all clean, and they're white.

I don't have any oven cleaner right now. Is there a "green" or less smelly way of cleaning the oven stains without using Easy-Off?
