Question on difference between SS finish and satin nickel
Comments (7)Those finishes look about right as examples of brushed stainless steel and brushed nickel. You can combine both finishes in your kitchen. How you go about it just has to make sense. The stainless steel does look a little more contemporary, because it has a slight blue undertone. The brushed nickel is warmer. My brushed stainless steel faucet Brizo Floriano shows no finger prints, but my brushed stainless steel appliances show everything. Go figure. My brushed nickel knobs show no prints, either. I used brushed nickel cabinet hardware, because it worked better with the warm tones of the maple cabinets yet still related to the grey of the stainless steel. The selection is greater for cabinet hardware and faucets with brushed nickel finish than for brushed or shiny stainless steel finish. My advice, wait until everything else is done in your kitchen, and then make your final decision on your cabinet hardware. Take home several styles and finishes. The hardware is the final touch that brings everything together. Like jewelry. Sometimes you can go with more, sometimes less; but in the end it has to look right!...See MoreBest way to clean satin nickel finish?
Comments (4)For water spots, I'd try vinegar, or Barkeeper's friend, which is made with oxalic acid. If it were a brushed finish, I'd say you could clean it up with a mild abrasive or baking soda, but keeping all scrub marks going with the "grain" of the brushed finish. But if it's satin, I'd be afraid to do any kind of abrasive....See Moreair switch for garbage disposal - hard to keep clean??
Comments (20)For Zarco: We've had our air switch for only a couple weeks but so far I'm loving it. It is easy to keep clean, I just wipe it down along with the rest of the countertop. We got ours at Lowe's for about $60, and that included a package with white, chrome, and satin nickel finishes. Insinkerator brand and it works fine with our Kitchen Aid disposal. For illinigirl: I've seen air switches mounted on the front of the cabinet frame as an alternative, but that's probably not a better choice than countertop for your situation. I don't see why it couldn't be placed inside the sink base cabinet, or even in the flip-out tray in front of the sink, if that would help. Definitely something you should discuss with your GC and/or plumber. I believe there is plenty of flexibility, just need to think outside the box. Good luck!...See MoreWill this satin nickel filter faucet go with chrome vinnata?
Comments (4)I know some people here insist that you can use chrome with nickel, it'll be byoootiful, doo what you loooorve, etc. but no, chrome and nickel don't go together. Both are reflective but one has brown undertones and the other blue undertones. You can get away with mixing them in items that are not right on top of each other--I have a chrome ceiling mount on a light fixture in an otherwise all-nickel bathroom, and even I have a hard time seeing it--but not two faucets in the same sink....See Moredixie615
