opinions wanted on decorating this bedroom...pics inside

so now that i have the bedding situation under control, i'd like to put some things on the walls. i won't be changing the wall color at this point, maybe in the future. so i'm looking at a grouping of 3 mirrors or 3 pictures for above my bed. what do you prefer? what do you think of these mirrors?

or some framed artwork?

Personally, I'd do a framed print with a nice pop of color, depending on what other accessories you plan to have. For me, the mirrors are attractive, but don't do much for your lovely room.

What a lovely room you have going. I love mirrors..especially the ones in the last mirror picture you posted...

May I ask the color of the walls? It's lovely..And I'm looking for a nice med to dark color at the moment.

I think that I would remove the silver vase and put the glass vase in the center. You could take a small glass bowl and turn it upside down under the vase to raise it up a bit. I would probably take the smaller branches out and gather some larger ones from the yard to add a little balance to the vase. Knowing me.. I would probably paint the branches red for a little "pop" of color against the dark brick and mantel and then hang the crystals on them. I would also take a pretty scarf and "swag" it over the top of the mirror. This would eliminate part of the view of the ceiling fan and the larger branches would take care of the rest. You could probably even use just a sheer curtain if you have one and let the ends drape down onto the mantel.Another thought.. if you have a roll of pretty wallpaper border,you could just cut it to fit inside the mirror and tape it in place to transform the mirror completely. Something with cardinals or other winter birds would be lovely behind the branches. Then I would take the other candlesticks and angels and group them at either end of the mantel.The little snowman on the end .. as cute as he is... would have to be put away until next Christmas. This is just my personal thoughts.. I'm not a designer/decorator and it's late,I'm tired and I'm rambling..lol. Susan

Karen..I like Sal's idea. Here's what my sister did. Her runner had pointed ends. She folded one point over onto the front, the amount she folded over was eyeballed until it looked right.this let the back fabric show on the front. She then sewed by hand through the back, catching the back of the folded down are with stitches, but did not let the stitches show onto the front of the folded down part. She stitched about 1 1/2 to 2 inches down...this made a casing. She then sewed a tassel onto the turned down part's point and pinned on a beautiful brooch she had that co ordinated with the fabric. (could use a fancy button too.) She then slipped in a piece of dowel rod painted to match the tassel color and about 6 inches longer than the runner's width. She placed cup hooks in the wall so that the runner hung just inside them. She put the dowell on the cup hooks, and then she hung satin cording with tassels off the ends of the dowells that stuck out. It looks like a beautiful bell pull..and hangs between her dining room and living room. I think these would make a stunning display grouped together...or on either side of a window or doorway. Let us know what you decide to do. Good idea!!

I have to admit, I've always liked the look of shower lights too - one apartment I lived in had them out in the hallway as well as in the shower. These were standard 6" Lightolier or Progress cans with the flush white plastic lens. The only issue with these was that they could only take a maximum 60w bulb and the diffuser soaked up quite a bit of light, so they weren't all that bright (although they didn't need to be). That was years ago; nowadays I'd just pop in a 23w CFL bulb which is as bright as a 100w incandescent. I've never seen or even heard of the ones you linked to - smaller cans that take metal-halide MR16 bulbs (the little bipin reflectors) 20w or 39w. I would think a 39w MH bulb would be quite bright - MH or other HID (high intensity discharge) bulbs are similar to fluorescents as far as efficiency goes. If you like the look, go for it!

What about this desk--Do you like this-- i would also order the cream/brown dresser. I can get this desk in the exact finish as these end tables-- same color.... would this work? Would can I put on the desk to make it fun- ie books/ a mirror so my mom can do her makeup- flowers?? The long wall where the desk would go-- what goes above it? Also I found amazing fabric today for my panels- its the perfect shade of bluish that is cotton basketweave- I cant wait to have them made- I will show you when they are done. We will do 4 panels- one on each of the outside windows in the bay and two on the large inside-floor length! And I'm having 2 euro pillows made with the same fabric to replace the brown pillows-- add more color on the bed...

What a beautiful, soothing and sophisticated bedroom. I like the mirrors, especially the last grouping of 4, but I don't think you need them with the long mirror on the other wall. I agree with susanka and would do a print. Something with trees would be my taste.

Speaking as someone who lives in earthquake country, I would not want heavy mirrors hung above the bed unless I could be sure they would stay there. There is a large picture above our bed which has plastic rather than glass to reduce the weight; it is hung with two larger-than-needed hangers.

I am going to agree that you need printed art above your bed. You already have a leaning mirror so for variety's sake, you need something different.

I revisited your thread to see if you had commented about the wall color, and in reading the other's responses, I would like to change my mind...:)

They all make a good point about the mirrors not adding color...(but I still love how mirrors look like windows).

As someone who also lives in earthquake country, mirrors would be very dangerous to be sleeping under...in fact, I never hang anything large over our beds..including large framed artwork.

So, I would go with a smaller collection of items or artwork that would not hurt anyone if they fell....even if YOU don't live in earthquake country...better safe than sorry.

Since you already have a large mirror in the space, I would not add another arrangement of mirrors. Besides, above the bed they won't help bounce light as much as they would on wall space opposite the windows.

I would think about artwork over the bed, or a cool metal wall sculpture with some curve and movement to compliment the bed.

Thinking of the other thread on your bedroom, I meant to get back and suggest that you consider painting your lower, angled walls of the ceiling in a color a few shades lighter than the grey-blue-green (sorry, can't tell for sure) of the bedding, or the same color as the bed itself. It will help lift the space and not make the ceiling feel so overpowering.

les917...that's what i'm trying to figure out...what part of the vaulted ceiling to paint.

so would you just paint the slanted part and make it one of the other colors in my bedroom to tie it in rather than the wall color or a lighter version of that. would it look ok being that the slant part is interrupted by regular flat ceiling in the entrance to the bathroom & the entrance to the sitting room?

do you happen to know if it's possible to add molding to a slant like that?
