How to remove wallpaper border adhesive
Comments (8)Gad, I worked on this project again this weekend. It's worse than I originally thought. It's almost like there's Elmer's Glue on there or something - some places very thick. Tried goo gone and ammonia and got some of it off but not all. I did take some of the finish off the wall however. The part I started on is in a short hallway going to the bathroom. The wall in that area is slightly textured - the rest of the bedroom is not. I'm telling myself that maybe the rest won't be as bad - that's probably wishful thinking. I can't imagine why the previous owner did this. Any other border I've removed in this house was applied with wallpaper paste on a sized wall and it was a piece of cake to remove. Can't imagine what they were thinking when they did this glue job - or whatever it is....See MoreAre wallpaper borders out?
Comments (27)I just remembered, I have a wallpaper border in my library, been there for many years now. I think I paid $90 for it and had a friend who owned a wallpaper store put it up for me - she did it for free(!)even tho I didn't buy the border from her. It's very wide, can't remember the measurements, but it was not 3D at the bottom as you see it. I trimmed every piece with scissors to get that look before it was hung. I thought it would make the folds in the "material" look more realistic. The wall color in the photo is a bit washed out. It's a deeper gold than that....See MoreShould I Keep My Wallpaper Border
Comments (33)For those who said that you can't move cabinet pulls because of the holes-- When they're painted like these, the holes can be filled with wood putty, sanded smooth and painted and will not show if done carefully. Moving them is definitely an option, but would require work, and of course, the desire to do all that paint touch-up. Re the border: I'm not a fan but if you like it, then keep it up. It reminds me of the 70's....See MoreI can't get the old vinal wallpaper border off
Comments (12)I have removed vinyl wallpapers several times before, and in my case they had a paper backer below the vinyl. The vinyl peeled right off like the skin off a banana, leaving the paper layer stuck to the wall. I soaked the paper with lukewarm water mixed with dishwasher soap in a hand sprayer, and kept it saturated for about 5-10 minutes. Then I could scrape it off with minimal effort with a putty knife. After that I washed the leftover paste thoroughly with 1/4 cup Mr. Clean in a gallon of warm water twice, then I rinsed thoroughly....See Morededtired
