Baja shelf or beach entry?
Comments (11)I spent a lot of time on this same question 2 years ago when we were deciding. I ended up going with the baja shelf. I'm happy with the outcome. The reasons I went with the shelf: 1. You probably need more space for the beach entry than the beach entry because you need room for the gradual sloping. We have have a 6 ft self and I think it was something like 9 ft needed for the beach entry. 2. There weren't all that many examples of beach entries and our builder admitted they'd only done one other one. 3. I saw one and was concerned it might be a little unstable for my parents who like to come visit and swim. 4. The beach was $2,500 more than the baja shelf. 5. Pebblesheen wasn't recommended for being out of the water, but Pebbletec seemed to be ok. The one thing I kind of wish I looked into more would be having the sandstone on the shelf. I've seen a couple of those and I think they look nice. Hope this helps. Donna...See MoreBaja/Tanning shelf pics and dimensions?
Comments (8)Tresw - Thank you so much for the extra info - I need all the help I can get. All of your suggestions about the kids really helped me, because our kids are 4, 5, and one coming on Monday! They will love the shelf, I didn't have one on my first pool. Right now I have ours at 8' wide and 6' deep, the shelf will be 6" in water with a couple of bubblers I hope. My pool isn't going to be very big, so I didn't want to eat any more of the swimming part. They are coming to excavate on Monday - same day as my induction! Your whole backyard set up is amazing - it is truly a dream! I am going to try and post some pics when we get started, you are an inspiration!...See MoreBubblers flailing on baja shelf
Comments (5)I believe they have tried 1" bubbler covers and 1/2" covers. The 1" bubbler covers don't do much when the pump is on low speed, which is most of the time it is running. The 1/2" bubbler covers result in a higher bubbler feature, but the flailing around (turbulence). I don't believe there is an actuator devoted to the bubbler. I"m not quite sure how to get a straight answer. The bubblers bubble when the pump is on, always. Two people from the pool company told us they have never seen this before. Our pool is 17' wide and the tanning ledge is the width, then 5' across. There are 2 bubblers on that tanning ledge. Could it be that people normally only have one bubbler?? I'm very disappointed in the look of the bubblers. 1) they don't operate very high unless pump is on high speed. 2) when they are a decent amount high, they flail around like crazy. Regardless of the pump on high or low speed. Not sure if this matters -- we have 2 bubblers, 2 deck jets, and 2 aerators. We only want to operate the aerators at times when the water is too warm, so we don't mind doing that manually (not via the remote). They are telling us that the remote is full already and there is not room to have the bubblers turn on. The pump primes at high speed for 3 minutes, then goes to low speed. It's such a pain on the remote to go through the long menu path to get to the place to change the pump to run at 3450 rpms. And that's the only way I can have the bubblers run at the higher level. :(...See MoreDoes anyone have a baja shelf in their pool?
Comments (5)We install in-floor cleaning heads on the sun shelves in an effort to move debris to the pool floor. The auto cleaner can come around and pick up any debris. We use the Caretaker System. Caretaker's tech support can provide a layout to builders based on the area in question to be cleaned from a scaled drawing. We don't use the collection system as the auto cleaner does that job. The heads are activated in the off swimming hours, usually midnight and later for a number of hours, through a Jandy automated controller. This way heads are not up during swimming time to be a potential toe stubber. Our sun shelves water depth is normally 6"-7". In the past we would set small pipe returns at the tile line but this method worked better. Some steps treads are best having the heads when cleaners can't get in. There still will be brushing required, but not as much....See Morecathouse9
