What's for Dinner, Sunday?

Our dinner plans are not exciting, to say the least.

Jello, broth, cranberry juice, apple juice, 5-Alive......hubby goes into surgery tomorrow to pull that pesky cancerous prostate out.

He's been on a liquid diet all day, and I've been joining him. Not fair for me to be baking bread, and eating, when he can't have any.

I'll join you in your meals, vicariously! ;-)

Oh Jas, good luck to both of you! We had a (sorry) lovely pork roast, oven roasted potatoes, and zucchini with onions. Some gingerbread from last night. Hate those liquid only days.

My meal won't tempt you at all. All repeats from last night.

He's on my prayer list. Keep us updated please.

Another beautiful day here in Ohio. I'm trying to drink in as much sunshine as I can since it's supposed to rain the next 5 days straight.

I'm late with this but thought I'd share anyway. I've been turned on to the low and slow method of cooking. So far I've done french dip sandwiches - bottom round roast and yesterday we did a fresh chicken. The concept is to cook for hours at low temperatures. So far I've use 170 degrees. The meat temperature never rises about 170. We did the bottom round for just a bit too long. I should have gotten it out when the temp read about 150 so it could rest for slicing. Yesterday's chicken on the other hand, so good. All I did was salt and pepper the inside/outside the night before and left in the fridge over night. In the morning I took it out about an hour before cooking. I cranked the oven to 500 to crispen it up then dropped it down to 170 for about 6 hours. I did baste it with olive oil, rosemary and thyme and stuck some lemons in the cavity. It was the juiciest chicken I've ever done and so flavorful. Broccoli and garlic mashed tatoes along with a wilted lettuce salad with hot bacon dressing. Leftovers for lunch today.

Shrimp kabobs on the grill, served on top of a big salad made of all kinds of good things. We're harvesting baby greens and mixed greens from the garden again, so that was a treat. I made a spicy thousand island type dressing that tasted good with the shrimp.

Laura, your dinner sounds delish--had to LOL at your DD. How soon they forget who taught them everything!! Sue, I was thinking of you, too. Glad you weren't alone when the storm came through and extra happy it missed you. Terri, lucky you to be able to see blue skies from your windows. Mine are so dirty!! I thought about making cc cookie dough. I have peanut butter dough in the freezer but my grandson is coming and I'd like to send him home with a bunch of cookies. :-) and turkey, too. OldFixer, you sure accomplished a lot today. Our electric never goes out for long, just long enough to have to reset the clocks. Hate when that happens! You deserve another happy hour round!! Seagrass, sure hope that storm has mellowed before it hits your area. My niece works in Boston and takes the train. Hope she's safe, too.

Laura (may I call you Laura?) nothing better than a day of shopping. How'd you talk your DH into it? Guess it depends on what you were shopping for. Don't you wonder what our mother's did without the choices we have for fast meals? Jean, your dinner sounds scrumptious, but tomorrow's soup sounds even better. Shirley, I guess Veteran's Day isn't as big a holiday as I thought--or as it should be. Yesterday outside the grocery, I bought a poppy. I didn't know they sold them anymore. I remember our Girl Scout troop selling them on the street corners downtown years ago. Raven, that sounds good. When are you leaving for Oklahoma? Hope your MIL is better today. Sue, you'd better get your appetite back or you'll shrivel up and look like me :-) Believe me, you don't want that to happen. My dad loved sorghum. Me--ick! Rhizo, I have no idea what you had for dinner, but you had me at smoked salmon. Yum! Now I'm off to Google :-) Mary, good for you and your DH. You needed a day like this. Hope you get rid of that cold ASAP! Phyllis, that's an interesting way to make your soup. Bet lots of people remember your method! Have you had snow yet? Glenda, I saw that ad on TV. Didn't it look delicious? I'd have stopped at Bojangles. I used to stop there at least twice a week on my way to work for a sausage biscuit--sometimes two of them. And I wore a size 4 back then :-( Georgysmom, I used to travel for work and be gone a week at a time. Harry always cooked for himself and my daughter and often had a nice dinner waiting for me when I got home Friday evening. It's good to know they can take care of themselves (even though I know you nicely keep things in the freezer for him). Have a great time--like I have to tell YOU that!!

We had grilled cheese sandwiches, with a choice of swiss, provolone, pimento, crisped pancetta. I like thin slices of sweet pepper in my sandwiches, too.

Sliced tomatoes on the side.

We had Fettucine Alfredo with Mushrooms and homemade Garlic Cheese bread. Nothing exciting.

It has been another full and busy day. I fixed food to go with grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and we took it all to Amber and Mike's. I took corn on the cob, baked beans, fried potatoes, coleslaw, a cake and the meats.

Awhile after eating we came home with Cheryl, Kevin and Alyssa. I have been outside all day since our dinner. My supper was just a fried egg, buttered toast and hot tea. It was a late supper for me. May have bad weather move in tonight. I hope your hubby does well Sherry. Will add him to my prayers.

Dinner tonight was a chevre, leek, pear and walnut tart with a tossed salad. Delicious!

Dinner was chicken fajitas with Spanish rice and refried beans. I'm stuffed!

Grilled chicken...hot dogs
Kamren and I topped romaine with cubed chicken. His was ceasar and mine was Asian..with sliced almonds and canned mandarins.
Kellan ate 3 hot dogs loaded with ketchup. Lol
BD had a grilled bone in chicken breast and left over risotto pan seared.

I made asparagus mushroom risotto using asparagus from our garden and these two morel mushrooms from our yard.

If you don't hear from me tomorrow than maybe they weren't morel mushrooms after all.
