I think mine's a 48" SxS KA built-in. It works fine with our only issue being the icemaker as well. Ice tends to freeze up along one side until the icemaker thinks it's full. It's not a big deal for me to reach in and break up the ice periodically - takes less than 30s every couple weeks. We did have a problem with the icemaker that was fixed under warranty. I was chatting with the technician when he was working on it, and he said all the manufacturers buy their icemaker from the same source (GE I think). Based on that, I have no great expectation that one brand's icemaker would be much better than another, but take that as hearsay. Other than that it works fine. As the guy at the appliance store said when I was contemplating subzero vs KA: "they all keep the beer cold".

rhome is correct - taking some time off is good. You are pushing for the early June start. It will be fine if you start a week later. After a week off you will feel refreshed and ready to start. It may also give you some new perspective stepping back for a moment. I hate to tell you but you will probably get more fatigued (or how I put it "decisioned out") during the build process too. Our design process took 14 months before we sent docs to bid. We were still designing and didn't start renovations for another 6 months (due to zoning purgatory). I was going great until I screamed "no more decisions". I trusted my contractor and let him do the decisions for a few days until I was ready to jump back in. I was probably more involved in the renovations than most home owners because I was here almost all the time and I have definitely opinions on everything. I had a great architect that had wonderfull vision but terrible at the details. The contractor and I both knew that so we double checked everything and then we moved windows and doors, changed them, move things around... - but that took time. I was gone for a week and my DH took over. He had one decision to make all week (which I already made but the door company screwed up). When I came home refreshed I had 10 major decions the 1st day like - which side of the siding to use, which trim to match, where to center the lights, where to place the bathroom window... My contractor knew I could make most decisions on the fly and wanted to be involved. It turned out well (we're still in the build process). Good luck!

I would say, absolutely go for it! I kept most of my existing cabs and had them refaced (new doors and stain). Since it was a matter of staining and needing a new section of cabs built, I had a local cabinet maker do it all. But, in a painting situation, it would be so much easier. I have read many good things about Scherr's and don't think you could go wrong with that one plan of yours. Call them up so you can be advised as to the best hinges and bore holes for the doors so ordering the doors and hanging them will go smoothly. They will make the holes for you.
