Any bored Photoshop pros care to take a stab at my DR?

My quest for the perfect paint continues . . . we close on May 1, and painters are coming May 5, so I don't feel like I'll have a lot of time to mess around with colors inside the house, unfortunately. I need some direction!

Here's the DR, which I keep using as an example because of all the woodwork. Plus, it's a good way to see two colors together -- I'd like the stairway to be the same shade as the LR.

I'm curious about BM paints:

Stairway wall - Shelburne Buff

Dining room - Narragansett Green, Yorktowne Green

Stairway wall - Wilmington Tan

Dining room - Same colors as above

It is funny you choose BM Shelburne Buff and Wilmington Tan as I have lived with both of these. It really depends on how gold you want the color to be. In my previous home, I had WT in my living room and MBR and I liked it; however, when we moved to our current home I wanted something less gold and went with Shelburne Buff and I love it.

The Wilmington Tan comes out a lot more gold than it shows on the paint chip. Below are the pictures of my previous LR: Beware the pictures are a little dark!

I don't have any pictures of my current LR w/ the SB (and we have been there three years) but I really do like it better. I think it would look better against your woodwork as well and maybe not fight with it as much as the WT would. Just a guess!!

I am trying to remember the green colors from memory and with them I think the SB would be better as well.

The "greens" I'm looking at aren't really very green, though. They're dark, and they appear blue to me on the cards. I think greens really do look good with the woodwork, but I already have a lot of green in the house.

I'd love to see the blue on the walls . . . anyone?

Thanks everyone. Still undecided, ugggg. I'm now thinking more toward the white with black hardware and larger, nicer, black lantern. DH wants the black door, but a part of me thinks I may regret it. We're buying it from a specialty store, not big box, so it's not something we can exchange. Not a fan of shutters at the door as a few other homes have them and never liked the look...for these homes anyway. Besides, we have plenty of shutters everywhere else. But thanks. I've never heard of a disappearing door. Unless I lived in a GRAND home, I couldn't think of not putting up a storm door. There are some homes around here without one, and IMO, I always think how it sucks to not be able to open the front door on a breezy day. Besides, I enjoy looking out the front door, I suppose, because I grew up in a row home and that's what we did - LOL. Thanks teacats for the advice. While Spring just sprang here, I don't have our garden goodies out and haven't planted any annuals yet. We won't be painting the porch swing, but, I can certainly give it some color with pillows. We planted that bush 2 years ago and it's taking forever for it to grow, but it doesn't help when the deer made a meal of it is winter. I think it would be a good idea to replace it with something larger too....we used to have a big azzalea there until it died. Any more comments, opinions, suggestion are welcome. Gotta make up my mind and get this door ordered.

Lindabarts, I appreciate any advice, help, you have given! I know what you mean about being busy. With 4 kids and a 5th on the way, I wonder if I will ever slow down. LOL. I have my plan but it is on paper. Not sure how to get it online. Hmmm...will see if I can figure it out. Thanks again. Msrose, thanks for the advise. I am going to give the khaki green color a shot since all of you like the creams and whites. I did try a test of a cream and it is so stark next to the bricks. I figure the green will give me the lightness I want while still being neutral. Worth a shot anyway, right? Parma42, I am coming around to your way of thinking too. I was thinking how painting the bump out and carport a bright color would accent them even more and really I don't want that. I want the door to be the focal point. I may try a terracotta door. Greenthumbfish, how on earth did you do that without adding color? I'm amazed. I can see the cream working so maybe the khaki green will work as well? Gonna try it and if all else fails maybe the cream. Thanks so much for the help! Awm03, I would love to paint the bricks. Matter of fact, I love cream painted bricks with brown trim and a pop of door color. However, dh wants to wait and see if we can find a color that works with the bricks first. Plus, I am going to be doing the painting and there are so many bricks to paint that I don't know if I could accomplish it or not. Thanks for the suggestions though. I agree it would make choosing paint less complicated though.

crazybusytoo, I only use Windows "Paint" to add objects to your photos and to assemble the 'item board'. No Photoshop, though I used Picasa to straighten your photo and crop it. Before I comment on drapes, I'd ask you where the yellow for the room came from? Because I have no idea how it ties into the rest of your home and its' finishes. I think the room could use a subtle pattern some where, and I am taking your existing color selection and layering soft yellow on soft yellow to enhance it's appearance.& create some visual texture. I recommended a classic stripe for the walls. That could be done with wallpaper or two tones of paint applied as larger scale stripes to the walls. Or simply flat and satin finish paint in alternating vertical stripes applied to the wall if you have an aversion to wallpaper. I suggested a subtle patterned drape also. From what I see in your existing dining room, you may be a person that plays it safe with your selections, so I'm only taking baby steps with my suggestions. A plain white drape, without a master plan for the room, is just a plain white drape. Safe like the Silhouettes.

Yes, Lisa, I'm probably letting form rule in these latest renditions, yep. I just really love that chunky island inspiration pic. I did manage to squeeze the must-haves into both of the newer options, though it was admittedly much harder with the chunky island. Both assume that there is definitely pantry space in the DR area. There's obviously zero food storage happening here, other than the spice pullouts on each side of the stove. The counter-balance, though, is that the other compromise point was putting the sink/DW on the island LR side instead of keeping one long counter clear of a sink or stove like I did in my first two options. I think that might be an example of putting function over form in my small space? I read an article yesterday which asserted that in a small kitchen, going to a galley can be preferable over a tight U because you get away from corners. I like the symmetry that eliminating the corner allows on that exterior wall - and I was able to fit in two 36" lowers. It definitely allows more drawers, drawers, drawers. I'm just not sure I like the blank wall. Lisa, of the 4 options, what's your pick for the best layout for me? Thanks for your vote, mercymygft. Everything is still on the table and your vote is appreciated. If you pop back in, do you prefer the L+island with a pantry or not (those pics, based on lisa's suggestions) are from Oct 29 and are mid-thread). You have to imagine that there is counter jutting out where the chairs are because the program won't put in overhang.

Hey there...one last houseguest left but he's taking a nap! LOL! So I did these up real quick for you. I did just one color in the dining room but it shows up a bit different on the top because there were two different colors underneath. And here is my usual disclaimer...these are right off the Ben Moore paint program but may or may not look realistic. ;c) P.S. I couldn't tell the difference between the two green colors OR the two tans on my computer. They are VERY close to each other. These look like 4 pics exactly the same.

Thank you so much for doing that! I had hoped that maybe seeing them in the room would help me differentiate them because you're right - they're impossible to tell apart online.

If you get bored again, I'd love to see Northampton Putty, too! ;-)

So, if Northampton Putty or Old Salem Gray were in the DR, I'm wondering about Shelburne Buff, Monroe Bisque, or Waterbury Cream on the stairway?
