What should my FMQ look like?

One of my New Years's resolutions is to learn to master FMQ so I can utilize it on some of my UFO's. I've made a stack of "sandwiches" to practice on. My question what should the end result look like as far as stitch length goes. I've read some past postings with lots of good advice, but I'm curious to know whether machine and hand speed should produce a stitch length like you would get with regular straight line quilting.ie. 2.5-3.0 mm which is what I usually use. Maybe some of you accomplished quilters can help me. Thanks so much for any advice.
