I don't go into K-Mart very often. There is one about 4 miles from me. I will ask my daughter about that, she goes often. I know that Sears in a nearby town is going out of business.

I know at Sears it is VERY hard to find a salesperson.

Some places like MSNBC and others have predicted that Kamrt/Sears will be belly up very soon. The Kmart here has been a toilet since we moved here, and even after a remodel about 10 years ago it was still unpleasnat to shop there.

I went to a KMart about a month and a half ago, which was the first time in probably 12 years. It looked like they were going out of business it was so ghost townish (is that a word?). And Sears? They have sales people in other parts of the store besides tools and appliances? I didn't know that. LOL

The KMarts in the Memphis area closed up two or three years ago. They had more shoplifters than actual shoppers. I hate that they left, but I can understand why they couldn't stay.

KMart bought Sears, and the deal killed both retailers.

Very bad business deal was made.

Sears was going downhill, losing customer base, and KMart, suffering from competition from Walmart and Target, thought that they could "upgrade" themselves with the "Sears" name.

KMart has been gone from here for quite some time.

Where I live the Sears stores is just terrible, you can't find a sales clerk even if you tried, and the store is really messy.

I don't think they will last long here which is too bad, I always liked Sears.

Soon there won't be any stores to shop in.

I was in the local store about a month ago, and the store smelled! A chemical-type smell, it was all over the store. SOmewhat like a paint smell, but it wasn't paint and it didn't smell like that, but that pervasive.

I checked to see if they had what I wanted (they didn't) and got out of there ASAP. I was getting a headache. Nothing could entice me back into that store.

Our KMart is great, lots of help and lots of stuff but do have to watch brand names. They have a certain brand of storage boxes made in Canada that I really like. Our Sears is not good, especially in the appliance/small applaince dept. Because they are commission basis, all they want to do is sell sell sell and will not take any time to answer question. They cannot wait to get to the next person, regardless of what questions you want answered. The women are the worst--just plain RUDE and snotty and I told one that.

When we moved to just north of Houston 3.5 yrs. ago, found out there was no KMart -- they'd already pulled out of the area. Houston metro is the 4th largest city in the US!
Krispy Kreme pulled out before we moved here, too -- couldn't compete with the local Shipley's donuts.

I told husband last week, I'll bet our Kmart goes under this year like Circuit City and LNT..

As you know, K-Mart and Sears are the same corporation these days. Supposedly, K-Mart bought Sears, but Sears tries to play the boss. Its really hard to fathom the relationship of these two entities - both are struggling. My experience of late with Sears is that they no longer have knowledgeable sales-people. For example, I tried to cancel a Sears credit card. The salesman called an 800 number and handed the phone to me (after the first part of a recording had played. What the heck - I'd missed the first part of the message and there was no repeat button. I gave up. I think they have dismissed all the regulars and have hired a bunch of untrained nobodies. I suppose the reason they hide is that they are totally unprepared to interface with the customer. Their management and training are missing.

I've gotten the impression that Sears adapted KMart's hiring procedure...give an IQ test, if they fail-they're hired.

The only reason I will go into Sears is for their Land's End dept.

hey i resent that! lol both my boys worked at k-mart and put themselves thru college...of course that was back in the 90's....

dh and i went to sears just the other night to get him shoes...there were more sales people than customers...

My Sears and KMart are both good - well stocked and staffed. And clean, too.

Our last KMart closed years ago..none of our KMart stores were ever clean looking and no one in sight to assist.

I don't go to our Sears here because it's located in the Mall and I DO NOT do Malls ever.
