Made the split pea soup

I made split pea soup on Saturday with the Easter ham bone and some left over ham that seemed a little fatty. We were babysitting our grandsons at our DD's that night, and she loves my pea soup, so I brought half up to share with her. I always throw in various left over fresh or cooked vegetables to use them up, so it is different every time. This time I had only one onion, and I usually like lots of onion for the 12 ounces of split peas. Then I added some pea pods, carrots and celery, not as many additions as I often make. I seasoned it with salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, bay leaf, a dash of nutmeg, and a glug of Worchestershire sauce. I had been going to add some peeled potatoes, but I ran out of room in the pot, so I will use them for something else. I pureed the soup and shredded the ham. It was yummy!

I wish they sold meaty ham bones for making soup. I buy ham hocks when I don't have a ham bone and that is good too, but I prefer all the meat and flavor from a ham bone.
